Anyone familar with wordpress or thesis theme?

Hi there,

I am trying to create a static front page site with a custom header with 928 x 150.

On the main pages i want it to display static texts first.Followed by the latest post.
How hard will it be to display it to be 2x2 latest post with excrept,how to do it will css or coding?

I plan to pull informations from amazon reviews and display the post.Will I risk seo penalty if I pull customers review now?

On the rightsidebar,I want to have a banner link,and the latest product deals.

BUT how can I show custom widget based on the categories or post I am in,any good plugins?Does custom-template helps?

I have problem choosing those plugins and themes I need,give some suggestions?
