For example what if you had 5 authority sites pointing to an anchor text vs. 5 authority's plus pbn lonks?

I'd be curious to see what people might find experimenting like this.

    Thanks

    Don't get it. You mean:

    5 authority links vs. 5 authority links + PBN-links?

What's the difference, besides the 2nd has more links so should rank better in normal cases?

I've wondered if a few authority links could rank competitive keywords or if throwing a lot of anchored PBN links makes a significant difference in boosting the keywords like a lot of SEO's do.

Yes i've tested this and it doesn't work. This is the tactic i used for years but since the last penguin topical pagerank seems to have really come to play, that's why pbns work so well because you're getting links from topically relevant pages.

I have a selection of high pr / pa/ da pages i can access and edit whenever i want. Im not bragging or anything but they are strong as hell. I've always used these and ranking was a piece of piss until the last penguin update where something obviously changed. It was only after creating a pbn and linking from these pages that i began to start to see any upswing in rankings. And that was after spending 6 + months waiting for what i thought was the sandbox holding me back.

Moral of the story.. only use / use as high a percentage as possible of links from related topics, and preferably from pages containing the keyword(s) you want to rank for in the title, h1 etc for big boost.

I also think this is down to what Matt Cutts was talking about before where he mentioned he wanted to do something to help smaller sites who don't have the domain authority that the likes of Webmd have. He mentioned something about if you are an authority in your niche but are a small site then he wanted to reward you for that, so pbns do a great job of mimicing that. Not an easy or enjoyable task building a pbn though :-/

Edit : I also believe this is the root of a lot of people's rankings problems. Not enough links from relevant pages.
