One of my clients has a business registered and trademarked areacodekeyword1keyword2.com This is the actual name of his corporation he has a domain to match.

Some fucktard got areacodekeyword1.com and is confusing people into using his service instead.

We tried calmly talking to the guy and he told us to give him $4,000.00 I think he thinks that he is the first one to ever think to do this.

Looking for advice on how to proceed.

Many people will cave the moment they get a sternly worded letter (starting with cease and desist) from an official-sounding source, even if you have no legal claim to the name. If you want to file a legitimate claim though, talk to a lawyer first.
