Anyone else's sales drop to almost nothing in the last month?

I've been selling on Ebay for around a year and have managed to make a little over 1000 a month from selling seeds & garden stuff, but for a month, I've been having horrible sales for no reason. I'm lucky if I even make $5 a day now!

It's not just a rough period since it's been this bad for so long, and it's not a seasonal thing either because my sales were better than this in the dead of winter. I looked at the Ebay forums and it turns out there are several sellers complaining about the exact same thing.

I'm starting to wonder if it has to do with the changes Ebay made to the site at the end of May and maybe the search engine is screwed up. Why else would so many people be getting absolutely no exposure or sales?

Anyone else going through the same thing or at least know what's going on? It's really scaring me because I don't have another source of income this substantial right now and won't be able to pay my bills next month if things don't change.

It is a seasonal thing, this time a year local businesses are having sales on seeds and plants.... When its cold, people always want to order from home, when its hot people go out to place's like home depot or department stores to browse and buy.

Always have a back up plan if one thing fails, as they say "don't put all your seeds in one basket" ( No Pun intended)

I still don't think it's that simple. What about all the other sellers on the Ebay forums with the same problem but stuff in totally different categories? Some of them have been selling for years and haven't experienced anything like this.

I just checked my views and they're extremely low too so I'm becoming more and more convinced there's a site issue. If that's the case, hopefully it'll get fixed since Ebay would be losing a ton of money if a lot of sellers are doing so bad.

And I've been working on alternatives over the last year but nothing I've done has been successful or made enough to live on.

yeah, you might want to do some damage control and do a search on ebay for something that would normally pull up some of your exact titles. see if your items show up. also check completed listings to scope out your competition.

It's not competition either; I sell so low that if anyone tried to sell lower, they would either not make anything or be losing money after the seller fees.

Hopefully it'll pick up again; I'm going to try and wait it out another month or so to see if it gets better.

Thank you---P.S Do garden tools sell are you selling those?-----How many do you have to sell for £1000 profit? Thing is that your in USA so big market than UK and so are there any rare popular seeds USA needs we can get from UK?

    It's not just you.

I sell several different categories, Womens clothing, shoes, purses, toys, sex toys, sports equipment, you name it. I sell it all worldwide. In one month, I'll make 1,000 sales. The next month, I'll make 200. That's a huge difference. On Amazon, I'll maybe make 900 sales, the next month... I'll make 850 sales.

For some reason, I'll get a big spike of sellers from certain locations, such as Brazil. The next week, it will be 90% U.S./Canada and 10% U.K. Then the next week, I'll have 40 sales in Italy (which might be 30% of my over all sales) and then not another single to Italy for a while.

Either way, I haven't met even a quarter of the sales I did this time a year compared to last year. 2008 was by far my best year. 2009 to 2010 was a HUGE loss in sales for me, and I'm not affected by seasons.

There's something seriously wrong with eBay, and people know it. I live very close to a large seller that sells liquidated clothing ($12mil a year in sales in 2008) that I keep in contact with and they are seriously sweating from eBay's changes... and they aren't the only one.

Right now, all of the "medium sized fish" out there who don't have their own actual eCommerce site, are all making one and are all starting to expand feverishly to Bonanzle (with little success from me), Amazon, eBid, and of course their own site. I think its the only way people are staying afloat. Hell, I'm selling stuff on Craigslist and seeking advice about opening up an actual retail storefront, something I NEVER thought I would do.

Also, if you have any friends in different parts of your country, see if they can even find your listings on eBay. A friend of mine in California (I live in the midwest) could only find 340 of my listings...

    out of 1200.

Sales are dead. We were doing min 10k per day and now between 700-1000, some days even zero!

I think it has something to do with the changes they made. Sales starting to tank ever since.

I think it is new ebay fees.
I have been selling on ebay for 3 years but i abandoned ebay this march - new fees are too big.

It's a combination of several things, big and small.

eBay has nearly lost its reputation. Talk to someone about eBay, even a person that only bought a Hello Kitty neck tie could have been scammed. Businesses underestimate negative word of mouth. eBay has lost a lot of it's traffic. eBay does not show up in the search engines nearly as much. I know this because I build a bunch of backlinks to a damn Hello Kitty Flashlight (thats right.) and link them to my listing on eBay... 24 sales in one month. Previous THREE months resulted in 2 sales.

Without selling on Amazon, and my own eCommerce website, I wouldn't be shit.

I noticed that since the Best Match algorithm was created, its v difficult to get visibility in the searches. This is compounded by some auctions has like 200 listings, and now have gone up to 1000. So more competitive.

I may consider Amazon too. Do you dropship on amazon, or own the stuff and send it out yourself?

I do not dropship on Amazon, I only do so on eBay and all other sites, including my own website. All of my products on Amazon are products I have in my possession.

I've quickly noticed that eBay's Best Match algorithm loves Fixed Price, Multi-Variation Listings, but I can not really explain why. It is one of eBay's steps towards a Amazon-like buying experience for its customers.

What do you mean by "Fixed Price, Multi-Variation Listings"?

I normally list fixed price/best offer, just to keep fees down. But still never get on 1st page.:(

For example, a shirt offered in green, blue, pink, and white. Buyers have to select from a dropdown menu at the top of the listing near the price.
