I'm not saying that it has ever been easy, just saying that just when you find a method that works well for you, that method dies quick because of all the anti's out there, seems like being a ice road trucker would be less stressfull than this IM game, just my 2 cents, and I am not typing this because I cannot find success, and am crying the blues. I have had good success, just saying it is very very very frustrating and exhausting IM thoughts?

Obviously it's getting harder. Think about it, IM is open to the whole world. Anyone with a computer can compete with you. Now, think about it the other way, what skills do you have that other people can't replicate? What's your edge? If you don't have one, it's only going to get harder.

It's only getting easier in my opinion. Just give the monster what it wants and dont stop and he wont hurt you. If blackhat linkbuilding is becoming increasingly less effective, that mean other SEO aspects are becoming increasingly more important. Figure out what those are and you will have adapted and survived.

it's true that it's getting harder in general as competition is getting stiffer. However, i agree with the others who said what we need is just to keep adapting.

i remember back in 2008 where you can rank quite easily with just 3-4 ways link exchange and submitting your articles to article directories lol. Even directory submission works wonder back then

It's getting harder only with the old good known method, because lots of noobs starting with them.
If you don't add some twist or use a brain for something new, it can be really hard for you (for everyone)

Generally speaking I would say that it's getting harder: cl, fb, other techniques not allowed here are harder to tap into or at least require a much broader knowledge. As observed above, more ppl getting aware of IM inevitably means more competition. A lot of countermeasures that didn't exist only a few years ago are now enforced even by smaller websites unless you catch them at the very beginning when they need to show growth percentages to their angel investors, but for the sake of completeness it vastly depends on which areas of IM you're taking into account.

A few specific fields, especially some very blackhat ones, didn't register any significant changes in my experience. But as always YMMV even there.

Diversity is the key in this game. If you are only doing one or two forms of IM and not trying to learn others, times can get rough.

I'll tell you why you are getting frustrated: you look up methods, you implement them then once you don't see earnings, you get desperate.
What you are not doing: you don't twist the method and make it somewhat unique, if you had hundreds of people doing the exact same thing then people will recognize the pattern and won't fall for things like surveys, ads, sign ups etc.

do you believe me if i say, that you can find threads like this with similar title from 3 years ago? i haven't searched for them, but i'm pretty sure, there are some

some people say it's harder and harder, i just say it's different and despite this IM is expanding maybe like no other business on the world, how do you explain that?

I think that the fact that its getting harder is a good thing. Because all of the so called "competition" is, in its vast majority, a bunch of lazy, anti-social individuals who think that IM will make them rich easily and quickly without having to leave the comfort of the pc chair in their parent's basement. These losers will just give up once they start to see IM is not as simple as they thought, leaving place to the true IMers, who treat it as a how its supposed to be treated, a BUSINESS. Relentless guys and gals who will work 8, 10, 12 straight hours a day and won't quit once once things start to get rough. People that breathe, talk, eat and shit IM. People that don't even think twice about picking up the phone and call a CPA to be get accepted faster. People who won't doubt to go out there to start offering their offline marketing services to local business owners and network their way to success. People who not only could not be less concerned about their "competition", but actually think of ways to exploit them and make them selves even richer at their expense.
Now, these are the kind of individuals you should be afraid of, because they are smart and, above all, very hard working. That makes them dangerous. But fortunately for you and me they are few. So in reality, this business is still (and will continue to be) very vast and profitable. You just have to bust your ass to be considered part of the right group. Hope that if you are not there, you'll work hard to get to that place. God knows I work my ass off every single fucking day to get there, and wont stop till I make it. 4 am here, my eyes are closing, but I refuse to go to bed yet. Still have to finish implementing two methods I read about today, applying my own twists.
    See you at the top.

Have a core business plan and then include individual marketing campaigns to help navigate the ever changing sands of Googliath and Facecrook. If you don't like change then IM isn't your place.

It's changing, sure, but it isn't any more difficult to become a success. Work begets success.

Even if there are low barriers of entry to get into IM, it requires an immense amount of studying and information gathering that not all that many are willing to put the time and effort into...as has been obvious by some threads made recently that seem to be dumbing down BHW all together. I've never seen so many requests to be spoon-fed since the beginning of Feb.

Each new update is reducing the amount of heavy competition and is actually a tremendous help for those that generate their own content and treat doing business online the same as doing business in the offline world.

The easy money is getting harder to grab, but that doesn't mean IM is harder.

IM is the second name of constant struggle, no matter someone copies you or not you just have to keep moving on in your unique way with constancy*

It is getting harder. Personally I am thinking of getting away from trying to get direct Google traffic.

It seems easier to try to leech from other sites instead.

just because spamming is DONE does not mean SEO is.
