Doing keyword research for clients 1 by 1 is pretty time-consuming.

Any SEOs out there who are doing keyword research automatically for clients and compiling them into a pre-sales report / proposal for clients?

You probably could outsource it to that BST guy, bulk deals will bring cost down.

I have some SEO clients and keyword research comes pretty easy for me. Sometimes I'll use software but to get the best targeted keywords I normally do it manually.

With the help of Google and researching the top 5 to 10 competitors I can come up with a list of good keywords in a short period of time. But all of this depends on the niche and how competitive the niche is.

The more you do keyword research the easier it'll become in time.

What's your process like to get those targeted keywords? Is it heavily based on experience and your gut?
Normally if you use software, you need to enter a "master" keyword first then the software will shoot out related keywords.

I don't see why to use any software for this, I'm using properly the Google Keywords Planner - exporting the top KW and then work with that spreadsheet. About the competition I use AHREF to see their "trend" and I include all in a pre-made report.
A professional presentation of the situation and the forecast for the website will bring you for sure more clients or, if not, at least a proper payment for your work. Don't forget :) Quality > Quantity

Mostly experience, sometimes guessing or experimentation. I don't like to use software that much because they spit out hundreds of keyword phrases and it's a waste of time going through them all. The keywords I choose are extremely targeted. That's why I initially go for the top 5 to 10 first then move on from there.
