Just wondering if anyone else is still using bidrank and web directories ?

Im still seeing decent success when using directories, even using my own pr4 directories for pr juice seems to work out great.

I remember some years back everyone said directories was dead, same can be said of most blog networks now it seems.

Funny thing directories was never deindexed in same way as blog networks even though they offer paid links

So its back to old school directories again for me atleast ;-)

Google has annual menstrual cycles. Some time ago it was web directories, then article directories, now blog networks, etc.

I do agree with your opinion of going back to old school directories. As Google devalues other link sources, web directories become stronger. Unfortunately not many web directories allow links to internal pages, but for homepage links its a good and affordable option for many.

Google's crackdown on links is just part of a vicious cycle, but that is IM for ya. :)

I'm finding that as well when I'm researching my competitors. Although I don't believe one should submit to any more than the top 50 directory sites, the rest may do future damage.
