    BHW...

About 5-6 years ago i injured my back whilst at work, was absolutely agony, couldnt put my socks on, bend down, and sometimes i couldnt even look down it was that bad.

Being an ex soldier, i tried to grin and bear it but eventually it got too sore, i was sent to accident and emergency where i got an injection in the spine and some heavy painkillers (co-codamol) which i had to take for the pain.

Anyway this back pain never went away and i eventually had to go to work armed with these painkillers to get me through the day...After a while, my back got a little better, and i decided to stop taking them...holy shit, was i in for a surprise!!..apparently these codeine based painkillers derived from the same place heroin comes from (opium poppy) and if taken for a prolonged period of time can lead to addiction.

I went to doctor and told him and he was like, yeah they are addictive, we can give you methodone to help come off them, i was like FUCK OFF!! i aint no junkie, so i decided to go cold turkey...

Oh my fucking god, for 8 straight days and nights i didnt sleep, i mean it, i saw every hour on the clock, i was sweating, shivering, tired but couldnt sleep, lethargic, runny nose, shits, and best of all, i had to do nightly feeds for my son and daughter, and be up with them in morning....

I was told its like coming off heroin, not that id know, or would ever want to find out for that matter!!. But it was a heavy warning and i was chuffed to bits to overcome this...

After a while, my back went again and again i had injection into back, except this time, i refused the codeine based painkillers and was instead prescribed "tramadol", which the doc told me wasnt addictive...

I took them for quite a while and noticed that i was using them for the feeling rather than the pain relief, and so decided to quit...fucking hell, gimme the codeine withdrawals anyday!!...this is heavy duty!!, sweats chills, restless legs, insomnia, chills, shits, stomach cramps and some weird freaky feeling as if your head is buzzing and your whole body is tingling...

I lasted 4 days and 3 nights and gave up, it wasnt getting any better, and i couldnt stand the pain any longer...so ive contacted doc who claims they are not addictive, after a little research on google, turns out they ARE, and not just addictive, but banned in some places....

Doc wouldnt help me out so ive had to taper them down from 10-13 a day, reducing the amount by one every couple of days....

Im halfway there but still feel pissed off at the medical advice i was given, i'll have kicked it in 2 weeks time, but i wanted to warn anyone out there who may be in the same position...STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THESE PILLS!!!

Yea opiate withdrawls suck. I was a heroin addict for a couple of years and tried to get off lots of times before finally doing it, that third day or so it gets really fucking rough. Gotta just suck it up and go cold turkey, methadone and that shit is absolute crap I can't believe they'd even recommend anyone to take an opiate to get off of opiates. Anyways good luck and all will be fine soon :)

Suboxone is now commonly given out to those either coming off of heroin or other opiates. I have had plenty of fun with oxycontin, but never got 'addicted' to it. Just took one, went out and drank, wouldn't take it again for 3 months, etc. Not saying I wasn't tempted though...

had a tramadol addiction up until a few months ago , think they call it ultram in the states ( IM UK ) ...worst period of my life , much like you started taking them for medical reasons and when i tried to stop i was in hell...still crave them now even though the physical addiction has passed , heard heroin users saying ultrams harder to come off of than H due to its double whammy of opiate high and anti depressant... Doctors are irresponsable fucks a lot of the time edit , the amount your taking can give you siezures btw , lol my doctor gave them to me 1 month after i had a baby , so a young mother with a baby to look after, giving her hard core -addictive- pain medication , not the smartest of moves, i like you suffered the pain , real bad deporession actually wanted to die , and restless legs...wasnt restless legs more like restless body! my whole being ached.

Yeah the docs are pretty shit, fair play, they are medical professionals, but id love to have them go through it and then come back and argue the case, i felt like renton in the film trainspotting when he goes cold turkey lol...

no shit i know exactly how you feel! the worst part of it is once youve experianced that youre always going to be prone to that feeling too , i know i will i fucking -loved- how they made me feel , i was happy as larry and completley able to function so not zoned out at all , what made me stop was knowing that tollerance is gained real fast and that sizures are a real possability , simply fuck that! Iwish you all the best though , and im sure youll do it , three days is intollerable , ask your doc to give you some vallium and get some pain killers ( non opiates for the aches ) just try and sleep as much as you can , although i know the insomnia is bad. Good luck x

What do you expect them to do? Tramadol and co-codamol are effective pain killers.. Have you ever considered you may have an addictive personality? :p Co codamol contains ibuprofen/paracetamol and codeine, its the codine which you get addicted to as your body converts it to morphine. You should try and extract the codiene if your taking them reguarly (CWE), paracetamol overdose is an extremly painful way to die and ibuprofen will cut your stomach up. Tramodol isn't an opiate so it makes sense to try you on it if you have an opiate addiction. Did you tell your doctor you're taking 13 per day? It would be neglagance on his part to prescribe you enough to keep that habit up :S Tramadol severely lowers your seziure threashold mate I would be very careful at that dose, make sure you're around someone who knows you're taking them... you dont want to go swallowing your tongue ;)

You could try ordering kratom online, it will give you the same sort of effects as tramdol or codiene but it isn't addictive. It is habbit forming though but nothing life threatening, the worst withdrawl symptom you'll get is the shits :p It has a cross tolerance with tramdol so take it easy on them for a day or two before trying it. If you overdose then you feel dizzy and throw your guts up... a slight improvement on a seizure ;)

I can say I like percs, First time I was given them for pain this is what mine brain said: "Fuck these are great, screw the pain, don't take these pills now. Save them. Wait 'till it doesn't hurt anymore then pop a few for fun." But the logical part told me to tread carefully. Don't go throwing yourself down some stairs later to get more.

So that's what I do, when ever I am given pain meds I take the least amount possible to manage any real pain. Then I got the rest for some slight occasional fun later on.

Anyway, I think the trick is, if you are actually using them as intended (for pain) don't just pop them all the time. Let the pain in. It's good for you, and it lets you know you're still alive. The moment you get to the point where you think you GOT TO HAVE ONE FOR THE PAIN, is the moment you need to back the fuck off. Take 1/2 of one. If you're already on high doses, ween yourself off slowly.

    Good luck.

Trust me, much easier said then done.

I had a quick heroine addiction (about three months) but I went to treatment after coming home half naked after being missing for two days. It was hard, really hard but all is well now :)

Holy shit you take 14 a day? My story is similar to yours. I got a back injury in the military and because I was on duty I am now a "disabled vet." So while I was in the military I sort of just grin and beared it, my back hurt alot and didnt really get better, and when I got out the VA in their infinite wizdom prescribed me TRAMADOL. I took tramadol for over 3 years for back pain, and finally gave it up not to long ago. At the most though I took 6 a day. So my back pain is still there but the pain comes and goes, sometimes it is really bad but I know that if i get back on the tramadol Im gonna be a retarded zombie again. I cant think when Im on those things. I have 64 credits from college that I dont even remember. anyways, its a bitch drug addiction, hang in there, you will make it.

OH fuck and the goddamn resless body shit, fuck i still experience that every now and again, last night It was bad and it fuckin sucked. Someone tell me it goes away? I have been tramadol free for like 2 months.

Well, I wish I had that choice. I am headed for my second spinal surgery in a year. I have kicked pain killers twice so we could find out what kind of pain I'm really in, but that's neither here nor there. Anything that affects your body chemistry the way that painkillers do, is addictive. No ifs, ands, or buts. Some of these non-opiate painkillers are as dangerous or more than the opiate counterparts. If you don't have to take them, don't. We are learning that my immunity to the painkillers is rising. And very fast. So my suggestion is don't abuse them before your body really needs them. If you are taking them just to take them, then you have a problem. Otherwise, do what the doctors tell you. Granted, they don't know half the time what they are doing either, but its better than our guesses at what's really wrong with us. Good luck.

I currently have a addiction to pain killers [tabs, oxy, roxy, percs] but I'm not that bad off. Its pretty much something that makes me feel good and that is why I do it. Also I broke my back last summer which didn't help me with the pills. I wish you luck on getting off of them.

I'm actually addicted to xanax right now. Trying to get myself off though.... slowing my doses a little at a time. I was at one point taking 4-3mg xr tabs daily. If it was a party night, I would rock 5 or 6. Fuckin sucked 2 days later when I got up. At least I got up though.

I've got myself down to 1.5 mg daily and still slowly coming off. I got myself off the time release which was actually a big accomplishment and pushed me to keep trying to get off.

My doctor is actually pretty cool about it. I was honest and explained that I was addicted. I explained my normal dosage and he said he would help me get off. He very well may have saved my life despite all the laws he is probably breaking. But he could tell my addiction was serious and that I was willing to actually come off the drugs rather than just score another script.

Key is cut yourself out of the "lifestyle" and try and focus on other things, like making money bh style.

I'll make it one day. Just one day at a time.
