I've been using sites like Elance and Getafreelancer for awhile. But basically here's what happens. I get a bunch of bids from these guys, most quite low bids. They tell me they know how to do the job, have the right experience etc etc. The time comes and I pick their bid and guess what? The guys have no clue how to do jack shit. Well, okay. I can understand that some people are desperate to get work. So I teach them how to do the job. Well... you know what happens next don't you? I never hear back from them again. :irked:

This stuff happens again and again and again...

Quite similar to my experience on GAF. You get a lunch of lowball bids and people who just seem to want to increase their reputation score. You really have to weed through the idiots to find quality workers.

Here's the best advice you'll ever receive, you get what you pay for :) No seriously don't think you're gonna get an elaborate application for a nickel. The reason the vendors with good reputations have them is because they have the experience to know what it takes to build these apps at a reasonable rate. Everybody else is blowing smoke.

Have you tried oDesk? They seem to have a better system in place. Easier to track the reputation of the person doing the work for you, and they often times have a portfolio of their work available.

    Lots of outsourcing options.

I love GAF... I have some real good guys that work for me from that site. You do have to take into account the feedback when hiring for sure.
