I dreaded the move but in January I bought 3 new computers (well, the components - I love putting them together and making everything work). Of course, being they were 64bit, I moved to Windows 7. At first there was some culture shock, and then I figured out the way to launch programs quickly was to hit the Windows key and type the first 2-3 letters in the programs name... and then hit enter... in the end, MUCH quicker than Clicking Start, and then finding the program I wanted to launch - even if it was on my most often used programs.

I like Windows 7 now - as much or maybe even a bit more than XP and you probably will too once you get used to it.

    Good luck with the journey!

windows 7 might be great in usability, windows 8 will be better.. but
big shit is , the internet technologies inbuilt now-a-days to stop cracked software from being used.

ive had music production plugins contacting their mother servers after YEARS of working on system and disabling themselves.. fukkkkkerrrs :(

    windows 8, goodbye free awesome l337ware ..

I'm running XP SP3 (+ latest Windows updates) on one of my PC's. It's pretty stable.

If you're planning a switch or upgrade remember to backup your OS and data!

Well i was a XP users for ages. I skipped vista for obvious reason like i will skip windows 8 for productivity issue.

Windows 7 pulls out the strenght of vista and reduced the ram usage. It is lighter and faster well the OS to move on to.

It is quite stable (didn't format for years on 1 computer)

There are 2 annoying things on windows 7 is that you need to configure the admin rights properly otherwise, you'll be stuck in some copy / pasting, and also you need to remove those pops ups :

"Are you sure you want to do that ?"

    then

"Are you very sure you are not screwing up buddy ?"

    "Sure, sure sure sure ?"...

Which is a pure loss of time, beyond that it is the perfect OS, well structured, 64bits, good ram management, stable, no frozen screens, great multitasks management (i pushed it to its limit and still running quite fast 14GB of RAM used on 16Gb recently)

sorry to stray a bit offtopic.. i bought this horrible laptop called compaq presario cq-60 .. that cunt wont let me install xp .. it is disabled! it wont even detect the darn cd, and the local computer repair shop told me only some good hacker can use something known "slipstream" to be able to install xp on it.. that really friggin sucks.. i wanted to use xp on it for music programs, as they work well on xp.. but now im stuck with vista the shittiest thing ever.. i wish HP and Compaq to starve to death :(

go for Win 7, you will never look back - I always wait a few months to see what the users have to say before jumping ship; Was using XP, skipped Vista (good move), but didn't wait too long to install Windows 7; Windows 7 rocks!

Yeah a lot of laptops are like that, as is mine. I think the reason is they made the hardware/drivers only compatible with Vista, so to get around it you'd have to modify the windows XP CD to include them or some shit. It's a dick move on the manufacturer's side.

I was having similar thought back than a year or so but then I finally moved to Win 7 as it is a stable OS. Vista sucked that was the reason most users did not wanted to upgrade.

Windows 7 takes a massive steaming dump on XP.

You will love it. BEST MOVE EVER MY BROTHER! Worry not.

I love Windows XP. The only thing that can make me switch to windows 7 is that it becomes extremely slow with the time and not any optimization can fix its performance. I have to reinstall it every few months, otherwise it driven me crazy. At least, this is my experience with it.

I always wait 4-5 years before going to the next Windows, due to the bugs, privacy and other issues that come with each new revision. It takes that long for good established workarounds and such to come around for each Windows version issue. I was on XP until 2010, on Vista now and I'm not budging!

I will never change XP on my comps.First because of the kind of work i do and dont need to be spyed or have backdoors on my own comps using new versions of windows and second because i wont support somebody who is working against humanity and freedom.
