I see a lot of advertising from Fan Duel on TV recently and I might join to play next week just for the fun of it. Does anyone here play on Fan Duel? Can you explain how it works? From my understanding, we pick, I think 6 players for the week that we believe will win, is that right? As long as our team wins we win? I'm new to this as you can tell but sounds interesting and the payouts look good.

I do not know how it works but I have also seen this advertised. It would be amazing if it really worked.

I feel like this is a blackhat lounge post but sure why not. You pick 9 players like a fantasy team in most regular fantasy football leagues with a salary cap. You can only pick max 4 players from one team. You need to pick from at least 2 different games. And if your "team" that you custom made did well, then yes you can win money. If just the player FROM the team you picked won, it means nothing.

Yes, the payouts are good, but it's hard, you need to make a lot of picks, and only a handful of people profit in the long run or hit a big win or make consistent sleeper/picks.

The same people who sportsbet/poker pros do it and there is a ton of research and time that goes into it. If you want to play for fun have at it. Me and my friends do it just start slow.

You can absolutely get lucky though and win a huge contest, that is a neat thing about it. And they have so many different styles of tournaments, you can pick your exact preference which is nice.

The people that win big are professionals, there are a small number of top players who run hundreds if not thousands of lineups a week because with so many people playing (there's a bunch of people you compete against and people will have the same players as you unlike a small fantasy league you have with your friends) the winning lineups are those that mix solid players who have a good week as expected and sleepers who blow up out of nowhere. Seriously, there are people who do it for a living, they have automation scripts and run a ton of lineups. Yes, you can win $10 or double your money but you're not going to get rich thinking you have football knowledge, you cannot compete with the big players because you're not going to get lucky and pick some sleeper who has their first breakout game that week.

Well, that's not quite entirely true. I mentioned it's nice they have different types of tournaments with different field sizes. You can play the tournaments with 100,000 other people and compete for the big cash or you can play against 500 and have a better shot.

He is right, there are professional short term fantasy guys that make thousands and thousands of picks, but anyone can play and make money. I have done it. It's doable. The nice thing is the sheer quantity of combinations are so large it always overshadows the field sizes immensely, so you can do it.

But yes, people who do it professionally make thousands of picks. Still, if it looks neat to you take a shot. The cheapest picks are really 1 - 2$, that is true on the commercials.

    Either way, good luck!

Like I said, it is still pretty fun just like picking fantasy teams for the season in different leagues.

i heard the doj just shut it down. it was in the news recently that an employee of draftkings used inside info to give themselves an advantage over everyone else. also in nevada they just declared fantasy sports as considered gambling and now requires a license.

maybe fanduel will be back and when it does you should try it. i know quite a few people who have made thousands with it.
