Hey guys, I'm a hip hop artist and I'd love to see if there's any like-minded people on here who know how to market music to get more listeners, the music is good by the way. I already have a verified Facebook page, but since I stopped making music for 3 years, engagement totally died in the ass.

Sometimes People can be really clueless or Super Duper Dickheads, and, on not so rare occasions, BOTH -lol

I'll assume you're serious. And your Music is actually decent..First thing is to try to establish some roots locally, you know, Open Mic, Talent Shows, Street corners etc.. etc.. Try to put together a lil Street team, Don't care if it's your Lil Brother and His friends to start..Handing out Fyers at your shows of upcoming shows. Always bill a show as your show, even if it is Open Mic. Get your Friends to call in and request your Song on the Radio even if it's not available at the time...Just building buzz..

Yeah I know Social media can be a powerful promotional tool blah blah blah...
There's a very small percentage of artist who are being found from social media sites, shit is to cluttered and A&R and the such are not about to be really checking for that shit on your youtube and facebooks thats why these cats stay just where they are. There are specialized sites for that and which are visited by A&R's and the Likes, there are some directories available but you have to do your own due diligence on that lol... after awhile you can get some buzz up by calling some of the bigger companies as a Rep of yourself...telling them to steer clear of your artist and not to contact them/YOU ...This will immediately make them want to contact you.
As far The Diss Record bullshit, that shit only works with somewhat established Artist, even if it's just locally. No real artist of any significance will let a nobody, no disrespect, build a career off of them..There's a bit more but I'm sure you'll figure it out. and again all this is moot if what you're promoting is garbage.

Start a youtube to promote your music and vlog to show your subscribers/fans the behind the scenes grind of trying to make it in the industry. Always be yourself and dont fake it. If your music is good, your followers on all your social media will grow organically. Join 5-10 forums and post your stuff...boxden.com....thecoli.com. Keep grinding and your success will come.

Try to be as much active as you can on social medias.
Post regularly new materials.
For example freestyle on different trending topics. Then redirect on your soundcloud or youtube profile.
Search on reddit you can find much interested people over there.

Youtube/Facebook ads. Local gigs.

Controversies. Make Lil your first name. Face tats, smoke marijuana, upload on Instagram.

Make deadbeat with "yea yea" on the loop and you're hit.

Not trying to be funny, this is what this generation is into.

Post your music with a pretty good video cover on youtube and then rank that video by doing SEO OR promoting the video on adwords. and also post your music on SoundCloud.

Do something weird on the music video, but really weird and pray for it to go viral.

This isn't exactly a internet marketing trick but it's blackhat as fuck. I got this from a friend of mine with a country act here in Texas. It'll be a little expensive though. Buy radio ads. Not to advertise your next show, but to play a track. You're going to pick out your single, and buy an ad slot that size to play your single. Get a few plays on the radio then have the street team that @SwiffJustus brought up start calling the station requesting the track. My friend mainly did this in small town markets, but it should work for you.

If you don't sound like you're gargling a cock while you record, nobody will play you on the radio.

That is actually a really good idea; I used to advertise on the radio fairly heavily for brick and mortars I owned but I could see that working really well for that as well.

My jaw slammed into the floor when he described that little tactic. A complete bypass of a lot of the gatekeepers in the business. We had thought about sitting down and cranking out an info product including some of his other tricks and tactics but life got in the way for both of us. That and musicians are BROKE so you're not really going to be able to push an info product on them and see sales.
