Your website was defaced...Someone hacked in and replaced the index file. See if you still have your other files in your FTP program, if not then you have to re-upload and reconfigure your website.

Yup, I still have my files, but the index has been replaced like you say. Its a bummer. I can replace the index with a general wp index, but who knows he may do it again, and then actually delete my files. eww

    any suggestions?

Just contact your hosting support, they will help. If your site got hit again, just change your hosting provider.

Thanks, good idea on the htaccess.

As for hostgator, theyre telling me that since Ive had a previous issue within the last 6 months that it will cost me $75 per incidence. So who knows how many incidences I will have in the future.

I'm not sure what else to change tho. Hopefully I can bite this in the butt for good tho.

Follow the suggestions above, also make sure there is no keylogger on the computer you are working on.

RE: changing things, just keep everything up to date and remove what you don't use (old plugins, themes, etc).

If you're still having problems drop me a PM. I can go through your site and check permissions, plugins and stuff.

Hide My WP helps you a lot because makes difficult to find headers of the databse tables and helps you to cover a lot of things (as login/register pages).

It's free somewhere in the download section.

Thanks guys, ya one issue was that I had 4 sites all with old wordpress sites, some hadnt been updated for 2 years. So that may have been a nice entry position. I don't know, so I upgraded all my wordpress sites as well as plugins. Now Id like to bulk change all my ftp passwords and mysql, but Im not sure if I can do that via hostgator cpanel. Anybody have experience doing that? I found a nice script at cpanel.net, but not sure if its usable with hostgator. I may have fixed some index files, but I still have that dumb favicon, so theres def still code left on the sites.

Seeing that all my index.php frontpages were edited and the favicon added, what do you think is the main point of access for the hacker? Ftp access? wp login access? host access?

Think I should change the passwords? any guides?
