Typically we're taught to target our niche to a specific audience.....'diets for pple looking for weight loss' or something like that

is anybody doing the opposite? marketing to the general audience regardless of what they were searching for?

if so, what kind of success are you having/not having?

I have done this using general keyword lists like college names, banks, car types, and etc. And just marketing something they just might intrigue them. You can get tons of traffic really cheap, it then becomes a game of getting your offer to convert, and keeping the CTR high enough to made the SE's happy.

This is one thing that actually works on 7search. I have 700+ car models at $.01/click and a zip submit offer for auto insurance. I really do not get much on the zip submit, but I get over $2 for a Adsense click so it all works well.
