    Hey guys,
I just wanted to ask, are there any good ways to make some decent money online as a musician?

I've had to quit my day job and now I can only work from home - and I'm a musician so I've decided to try and make some money online with that.
I write articles occasionally about musical topics, but the pay is VERY low and I wanna make a normal amount of money (so i can buy beers and food every day ;)) every day... about 30$ a day for a couple of hours work can be nice - I'd say I want a 100$ but that's a bit unreal I guess.

Any suggestions? I'm pretty decent in article writing, I'm a good guitar player and I can make lessons/e-books/videos.. I can also make some electro-music tunes I guess.. My problem is that I don't know what I can do that will actually earn me a dime and I guessed that if I asked the guys on these forums I won't have to waste a couple of months not making anything until i made a dollar.

    Thanks in advance,
    Arikrattlehead

do you have any songs of your own? in my country (austria) we have 2 #1 hits through YouTube. There was no casting, but their songs were good and now their songs are ranking on top in the "Ö3-Hitparade". They are earning big bucks today.

or wright guitar "songs" for videoclips as the website "animoto" have them for their slideshows, give 5 secs for free and if somebody wants the 2 min song - charge him

or if you are a really good guitar player, play "samba pa ti" from santana, make a video from your guitar action and post it with TubeMogul. don't be shy! show them that you are the best!

    good luck

ps: i am no musician, so these are my first thoughts. if i have more i will post it (if you want) ;-)

Give Lessons via skype... I play 5-string banjo and had taken lessons from some pretty great players online... Geography was no longer a barrier from playing with seasoned vets.

Hi there Arikrattlehead. Thats a great talent you have there :). My suggestion to you is to get a person along with you and make free guitar lessons. Post them on youtube. You would become famous eventually. Add adsense to it. You can see some increase in $$$. Then why not compile all of them + make a book and use free hosting to setup a website and buy a domain and promote your product on Clickbank. That would be great wouldn't it?

Your videos would fetch you traffic + reputation + income and your product will fetch you even more. All the best for your future!

Upload videos to Youtube. No joke, if you are good you will get plenty of people following you. You'll make partner and can start pulling some money in from views. also you might get discovered ;). Also fiverr could be a good source of income.

hi i'm a pianist, if you have your own music composed sell them on cd baby, make several youtube videos for advertisement and be known from there, get a facebook page for your fans :) and if you can create lessons on the musical instrument you play, create one website and make a membership site out of it, or create lessons make it into a package of ebooks on dvd and video lessons on dvd with manual or just sell it as a download (careful though), or create a website promoting your lessons for this and add them to clickbank for an army of affiliates so in short just be creative, i gave you some tips already, its hardwork :) but it pays off in time and its worth it.

Thanks for all the replies you guys!!!

I think I'm gonna give a shot at making videos on Youtube and Fiverr - looks like a pretty fun thing to do!
The thing I don't get is - how do I get money from it? It's not like I can advertise some kind of CPA offer through my songs/video lessons...

Try offering something like: 'I'll write you a personalized song/beat for you or your company' on fiver :)

Youtube and giving lessons is a great suggestion as you can make money if you do it right and optimize your titles properly. Remember that Youtube pays based upon views.

My second suggestion is creating a website and selling lessons online. Via Skype or other online instructional websites. This would probably be the best, since you can also market it online and get a good amount of students if marketed properly.

You can make money with it on Youtube or iTunes.... YouTube does better than iTunes, but I would suggest using them both together. Market on YouTube FIRST, get a following, and then move your song to iTunes. :p

Create a site that does online training. Allow your clients to choose songs they want to learn. Charge a monthly fee or per video. For marketing post ads in the musician community section of CL. You will get tons of clients. Guitar is the most popular of all the niches.

I looked into this a while back because I play music and my piano player was interested. Could be profitable. Tons of searches online in this niche.

Since we're not allowed to post links I'm very limited to as what I can suggest but try this for starting research: Google independent a&r companies.

One company I like has a name that's a synonym with cab (hint hint) and they have a very tight connection with a woman who was a leading a&r exec with a large record label.

The niche I'd pick is tv and movie music placement. Just check it out. There are also many places where you can upload your music files and people can buy direct for fast cash, while you work out a longer range game plan in a lucrative niche.

    Good luck!

you can make videos promoting "how to" products. Creating your own "how to play..." products might be difficult if you haven't taught before, but you could certainly use your skills to market other peoples products.

Basically, you would create the freebie products, like a video teaching how to play a few chords or one song...use that to get them on a list, then market other products and offers to them.

Get a blog and autoresponder set up. Get a decent webcam and microphone.

Start with videos on youtube as people have said to get traffic. You can move into social sites or paid traffic later.

Good idea re your own product, but not an Ebook!

Guitar play is about sound and sight. A book is the worst way of delivering it and ebooks have teh lowest perceived value.

A video course is what you could do! If well promoted as described above, a book can at best fetch you $19, while a video course, especially delivered via Kunaki rather than as a download, could go up to $77. And it's much more fun to talk than to write (as in for a book). There will be instructions for the apprentices, won't there? These you can have transcribed and edited into chapters and you get a book as a bonus.

What else I would do is some Royalty free clips, naybe even for starters.

You can set them up at

    HTML:
    http://audiojungle.net/
    http://www.royaltyfreemusic.com
But above all on your own website.
You can get one set up for $5 at fiverr.com

Put the loops at lower bitrate at youtube, with video, and free on your website, as teasers. And at full quality as a paid download.

Use this PayPal button widget to set it up, it's much easier than messing with PayPal code directly.

    HTML:
    http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/member-downloads/252054-get-wp-plugin-generate-paypal-shopping-cart-buy-now-donate-buttons.html#post2251106
And do not procrastinate! Set it up and then look for ways of improvement, on the go, while already making some money!

my friend told me about a site where you can submit and sell songs you wrote for people to use for various projects, like commercials, soundtracks, games, etc. i guess it has a bidding system or something, sounded pretty cool. think it's called 'taxi'.
