Depends how big your page is. Here is my tip, grab the yellow pages. There is an ocean of businesses there.

    Good question ipwned,

Be sure and have credible metrics to show potential prospects. People advertising online like to see metrics like traffic, time on site, bounce rates, etc. No matter which analytical platform you use, make sure you have these numbers available and if they look good, don't be afraid to promote it.

You may also want to show advertisers how your content appeals to their target market and how placement of ads can help improve clickthru rates. When dealing with advertisers they will want know how many eyeballs will see their products/service, how likely people are to click on the ads and even conversion numbers if you have them. If you have any of this data already be sure and showcase it to prospects.

    This post offers some ideas,

Here is one about selling ad space on a blog but many of the principles apply,

I just find the mailing or contacting section and then mail them. nothing else. most of my ads are in forums and forums have their ads section open.

Are you contacting advertisers asking them to advertise on your website? I just want to make sure I understood the question if I did then the advice I'd give is to make sure you know that your visitors are the demographic they're looking for. Make sure that you haven't started monetizing your website too soon, it's very easy to fall into the trap of putting up ads right at the beginning, but if you have no userbase yet then it's unlikely you'd be able to sell ads. Instead of establishing a CPM rate, consider having a flat monthly rate. When contacting try to find the name of the right person to contact, using a contact form may work but I'd doubt it'd work as well.

    Good luck! :D
