You can't do it accurately enough. You can use online tracers, but it's not nearly accurate enough for an address. The only way to get it is to contact his ISP.

There could be thousands of people using that same IP. Who are you trying to catch? A spammer? A scammer?

If it's something like a scammer, you can try to fool him into giving you his address. If this person knows you aren't after them, offer him some free incentive to fill out that you've created. Make it look like it's not from you obviously. If this person isn't an idiot, you'll probably just get a crap email. Maybe you can get them to do some sort of voice verification? Anyone out there know of any methods that have worked?

The way to get someone's IP who has scammed you can be done the same way. Send them an email offering something enticing and get them to click on a particular graphic or link. Make this click something only this person would know about. Check your logs when it happens - vola.

comcast ISP. Massachusetts, US. that's all you know from IP. For all you know he could be using that as a proxy. If you really want to get someone your best bet is doing what previous poster said.

Sorry man you're out of luck -- the only thing you can do is contact the ISP but if you aren't any authority or do not have a subpoena, you're out of luck.

The ip is similar to mine so I am guessing it is someone close to me talking ish about me on an anonymous bulletin board here about local politics. Coward won't say their name.

^ Just because it is similar to your IP address does not mean the person lives close to you. IP addresses are 110% random. There is a pool of inactive IP's and when someone signs up for new internet service, one random IP is assigned to them from the inactive pool.
