I'm searching for a promotion method that isn't trending down.
    For example:
Go to trends.google.com and type anything you know.
    link exchange
    reciprocal link
    phpld
    xrumer
    scrapebox
    search engine ranking
    buy links
    guest posting

It is silly that everything seams to be trending down.

It isn't that everything is trending down it's that the quality requirements to fool Google are going way up. So most types of links can still be used with good enough content, accounts, and with the right anchor/linking strategy.

It's not like it was a few years ago like when wiki links were hot and anybody could throw 500 wiki links at a site and get top 10 rankings. It's more about HQ and strategy and diversity.

It might be that a few people actually are successful with the old methods. The up trending tells me that the methods was successful but I think the down trends tells that most people are giving up or doing something else. I dead sure that people that are selling link building services for example are losing lot of customers and it gets very hard to find new.
I mean if there is anything that is working people sooner or later learn about the methods and it should start spread and people would be searching for it and it would show up in the trends.

That's because some of those methods are obsolescent while others are being used less as methods like building PBNs gain even more popularity. Or maybe webmasters aren't using those terms like they used to when searching for SEO services.

Yes PBN seams to be doing well as well as social media. It tells me that PBN is done without heavy link building and that people are moving on to social media without building links for SEO. Otherwise link building would show up as a rising trend.

Bad example to use an industry like that. If you want to see a niche really trending then check out seasonal items.

I don't know about bad example and if we talk about example we can use something that makes more sense:
    http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=backlinks, xrumer, scrapebox&cmpt=q
there is three parameters here that is heavily involved with backlinks. In this example we can clearly see that the interest in this industry or method began to decrease year 2011. I am dead sure that we can see many more examples showing the downtrends at that time. I believe most people would agree on that Google made some changes that year that made people lose interest in that method.

The sad thing is that a lot of people that doesn't know about using Google trends as a guideline for a niche or a method to determine its value and wander around blindly trying out everything they can find and wasting both time and money. The only people that are gaining from this are those that are taking advantage of those that are lost trying to find their dream.
