I'm a newbie to IM, but I've purchased a micro niche site through BHW and outsourced the SEO. I've been at the top of google for about a month, so the SEO I purchased seems to be working.

My question is, as long as I remain #1 on Google, would there be any benefit to doing additional SEO? I only ask because traffic is not as good as I would have expected, but that could just be a result of a mediocre keyword.

well if your keyword isn't worth much i wouldn't spent further money for seo however if you would be earning good money if would def invest a bit money from time to time to make my site even stronger

    Thanks for the response.

I'm honestly not sure what my keyword is worth, but I wasn't sure if any additional effort after ranking #1 would make a difference. It sounds like it still would, correct?

That and if it is worth keeping, then continue doing SEO so it's harder for your competitors to take you down from the first position.

Install analytics, look at what other keywords/keyphrases are driving traffic to your site. Do SEO for them keywords too.

Do more SEO to void losing the position. Keeping #1 is harder than reaching it.

It's different with every keyword. Sometimes you get to #1 and you stay there forever with no further effort and sometimes you have to fight for the top spot.

If you're at #1 and you're not making much, look for related keywords with higher search volume or higher CPC. Start building links for those keywords and you can rank for those quite easily since your site is already trusted by Google.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

I was actually wondering if it's worth it assuming I don't lose the #1 spot.

I understand I could lose it, but I just want to know if, the traffic I am seeing right now, is the best I can expect since I've been at #1 for a month or so.

Based on what you've said it sounds like you have a crappy keyword your ranking for if it's not driving enough traffic. Focus on ranking other keywords with greater search traffic. Using Google Keyword External you should easily be able to see how many exact searches you can expect.

Thanks. That's basically what I wanted to know. Wasn't sure if I should spend more time doing SEO for a site and hope it will perform better than it is now (at the #1 spot) or just maintain the current site and look into another Micro Niche Site with a different keyword.

If it's a micro niche, then I usually don't bother, but I keep an eye on whether it stays #1 (I check all sites once a month to make sure they're still ranking well). If it drops then you can always blast it again to get it back to #1.

If it's a competitive niche then that's a different story, keep building backlinks.

If you focus on a related set of keywords not only will you gain more traffic but the "core" of your domain will gain more power making it harder for you to be outranked for your primary keyword.

I suggest you keep the link building process, just scale it up or down according to your needs.

If your truly number 1 everywhere I'd say there's no point unless you start to see your rankings drop..
