This is my rescued APBT, Herman G.P. Munster (the G.P. stands for "Green Peepers"). He showed up in my neighborhood one day injured and looking generally rough. The worst was a gash on his neck due to an embedded collar that was on him so tight it's a wonder he could breathe. Long story short, it was love at first sight so we picked him up, had him treated and as a result, the vet documented him as an American Bulldog Mix because he saw what a great dog he was and that we intended to keep him but if we took him to be registered and was labeled as a "pitbull", the county would put him down because of that stupid Miami-Dade BSL law. Anyway, just trying to detach and shoot the breeze for a bit as well as maybe get to know some people on here .

Calling it a stupid law for putting a dog like this down is crazy, the same breed of dog which was a family pet in England that would ''never hurt a human'' mauled a 6 month old to death on monday

That's unfortunate and not uncommon. I understand your difference in opinion.

Unfortunately these dogs are never "harmless" and are very possessive. Which is why pure Pits are illegal in the UK.

Rottweiler's are my absolute favourite but if they don't respect you then yikes.

I don't necessarily agree that all pitbulls are bad, or that all of them will go wild at some point. I think a lot of it has to do with each dog's life experiences, treatment, and how (or if) they have received proper training. I do not think pitbulls are bad as a breed.

There's no right or wrong about these types of dogs.

BSL is there for a reason ( rightly or wrongly ) but in the UK it hasn't worked, as they should all have been destroyed or neutered, but there are still these dogs about.

These breeds are more of a status dog, primarily bred to fight. What motivates people to want these breeds of dog?

What is worse though is people who have dogs like this have no idea how to train or work with them.

If you have to resort to prong collars or ecollars, you shouldn't have a dog.

Omg OP your username and avatar.

    I love you.

So bc this one decided to eat a baby, all of them should be labled as killers and be put down?

How do we know that baby wasn't agitating the dog? Six month old kids can be highly annoying.

My husband is a dog trainer and we are both responsible and considerate dog owners. I can tell you that we watch him very closely and always will. So far, he's the best dog I've ever had.
