I'm just wondering how difficult it is to upgrade from 1.5 to 2.5, anyone know?
The problem isn't the upgrade, the problem is the template, and plugins that you have. If you'r doing such a big upgrade, i would setup your current installation on a private server (minus the content), and upgrade that, see what happens, then decide from there.
Thanks, it's not a problem because I'm keeping the sites offline until they are upgraded anyway.
Also I have done full backups.
Is it like there will be minor tag changes and so on in the templates, or is it like they will be completely broken, or does it depend?
I would imagine it depends. Your best bet is to try out and see what happens just like Panther28 mentioned.
Thanks both. Ill try in morning
Hello davids355, I'm going to be completely honest. Joomla 2.5 is NOT secure it has many exploits, though I'm not sure what your using it for but maybe consider using something else? as you already have to change things. Or you should upgrade everything, but as I said before I'm not sure what you using it for, but if there is any sensitive DATA on it please consider using something else if you don't have any experience on modifying the source. goodluck!
Thanks, we have about 150 client sites on our hosting and 3 of them run Joomla, so that's the way it is, but just need to update them.
Anyway, all sorted now, the upgrade went very well in the end
Well it depends on the extensions you use in your current joomla 1.5 website. Not all the extensions are compatible with joomla 2.5 website, in that case you need to find the alternate solution so that your website functionality is not affected.
As old joomla versions like 1.0, 1.5, 1.6 & 1.7 are outdated and Joomla community has stopped its support, there is no option but to migrate to joomla 2.5 or latest version. Before starting your migration process take your current website complete backup off the server. So that if anything goes wrong you can revert it back to the old site.
Also Visit USJoomlaForce, a leading joomla migration expert and download its free migration checklist option which will be very much handy during your migration process.
What CMS doesn't have exploits? Just like with anything else in the cms space, you just have 'armor up'.
