I'm sure many of us use quotes to insert into articles, for example steve jobs said "blah blah blah at navada conference"

problem is many websites are using the same quote, these big websites do NOT get penalised and obviously you shouldn't
because there quotes with backed up sources

anyway

Question)

How do I insert a quote without being penalised by Google. I tried "blocked quotes" on wordpress and it failed -
Copyscape picked it up, what methods are used not to be penalised to make sure your quotes are safe in terms of Google?

Ow, I also used block quote. I thought it is the fix. Anybody can help?

The only reliable way to avoid Google indexing content from a given URL is to include it as third party content, and probably the most practical way to do that with wordpress is to use an iframe with src on different domain.

I didn't quite understand this? on different domain? never heard of iframe either can you explain it please I'll get someone to implement it once I have a basic understanding to what they have to do - thanks jake

bump. I experience the same challenges with quotes and was hoping Google would somehow show mercy if a link was included to the original source.

You can post quotes without getting penilised. Just because copyscape picks it up it does not mean that's a bad thing. If you are going to reference someone's quote you should link to the source which is standard etiquette.

Copyscape is just a tool for finding duplicate content of different wesbites. It's not an indication that Google will semi-slap you for displaying a quote from another site. Put a link to where the original quote is from if it makes you feel better but simply by adding the name of where the quote was published will be fine as given credit to the original site.

To be flat out honest I still don't know why everyone still holds Google as some kind of traffic God when social sites like Twitter can bring you tons of highly targeted traffic with less effort and much quicker. But then not many people understand how to use Twitter correctly and just end up spamming the crap out of it then stomp off in a mood when their method doesn't bring any traffic at all.

If you're worried about Google then use the social sites to get traffic instead.

Theres nothing wrong with curating content. Just put your own spin on it to make it more unique.

Yeah, this is the way to do it, even better of you're linking to high authority page. Shows G you're giving reliable information.

Just cite the quote and as long as it is relevant to the content there is no penalty for using quotes if the purpose is to enhance the main content. That's what block quotes are for... But if it concerns you do as Sahl suggested and use an image instead... my .02
