Any drawbacks to using Yandex Metrica? (For those who stay away from GA and WMT)

I don?t use Google Analytics and Google WMT (as well as other google products), as I don?t want to leave a footprint, and I don?t want to provide google freely with that much info about my sites and the visitors. Reports of people having all of the sites they have in their account hit (and not those who did not share that account) during updates is probably the main reason I stay away from GA, since I get a lot of my traffic from search. Yandex Metrica is the web analytics solution offered by Yandex, Russia?s equivalent to Google. It has lots of features, and looks really impressive! However, despite seeming like a great alternative to GA, I have only seen it mentioned sporadically on BHW, and usually people talk about Piwik, Statcounter, and Jetpack as the main alternatives. Is there any reason why not more people are using it? I have read that yandex also collects the data from the people who use metrica on their sites, just like google does with analytics, but unless you target the Russian speaking/eastern European market, is there any problem with this? I am not concerned with how I do in the yandex serps. Those who stay away from GA and WMT, what are your thoughts on using Yandex Metrica? Any reason to stay away from it?

You have the option to move away the banner.

When you define your analytics code you have the choice of which option you want to implement.
I especially like the recording and analysis of site user behavior.

Yes, and it's great that they have a heatmap too. Have you used other web analytics than yandex metrica, how do you find them compared with yandex metrica?

People use piwik because it runs on your own servers so it's 100% safe. Piwik demands a LOT from the database server, be prepared to upgrade or use a separate DB server for the web stats.

I switched from GA to Yandex Metrika over a year ago and never looked back. It works just fine for my needs. As mentioned in this thread already, the heatmap is a really nice addition.

Metrica is good but it's not a alternative to wmt. Are you trying to rank in yandex instead of google ?

Metrica is much better since it provides a heatmap, and one can do seo rank in any search engine by using any of the stats programs or services. B

Piwik would be the ideal analytics solution among those mentioned, but as you said, its resource demanding, and I would't be able to add it to my current hosting setup. I looked at the hosting plans offerd by Piwik's "partners", with piwik pre-installed as part of the service, and they actully look decent value. I'll look into some more hosts and consider whether its worth going for it now. In the future I would definetively like to use piwik, and be more fully in control of my site data.

I would like to rank in google, which is why I want to use a non-google analytics solution. I am not familiar with ranking in yandex, but if I only wanted to rank in yandex I wouldn't be particularly wary of using google analytics, since I wouldn't fear any backlash from google.

As for WMT, although its a helpful tool, there are too many potential backlashes to using G's services, as lots of discussions on here has shown (many people now refuse to use G Docs, gmail, GA, WMT).

That's also why I don't want to use GA and WMT, but since Yandex is eastern europes Google, I raised the question here if there were any potential drawbacks to letting yandex steal the info about your site. So far none has been mentioned though, and I guess unless you try to rank in yandex, it doesn?t really matter if yandex knows a lot about your sites.
