Any advantage to using Google redirect link instead of your own URL? (noticed this on guest post site)

I just noticed someone using Google redirect link in this way https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.google.com/url?q=https://WEBSITENAME.COM/ on guest post instead of linking directly to their website.

I never seen redirect usage like this. Does this have any benefit? Anyone have direct experience that can comment?

But my guess is that they don't know what they're doing and are wasting the link slot by linking out to redirects... or the guest post is so worthless that they're sacrificing it for tiered link building.

Regardless of what's going on, those google redirects are useless in terms of SEO value, so I think they're just shooting themselves in the foot. But that's my opinion, if I'm wrong please correct me!

I observe a lot of weird stuff when I look around. I was looking at purchasing niche edit and when searching for my keywords came across a few articles and one had Google redirect like that. It was only one webmaster that was using redirects on this website. All others that purchased niche edits were using their own domains.

I recently saw one website using a lot of redirects to spoof their referrers. I haven't seen this kind of technique used in years but I guess there are always exceptions.

I was thinking that maybe they were trying to avoid getting their domain banned while spamming. So the intent might not be link building, but rather getting potential buyers to click the link. Don't know if this would save you on Reddit or Facebook
