I wrote a big article and put it together and another major site, copied, even linked my own site but basically ripped it off and is generating more traffic.

Anything I can do about this?

Sue them if it's worth the trouble (hint, it's not 99.9% of the time) or I'm afraid you'll have to live with it.

This is why SEO is a PITA for new creators in the game. Another more authoritative site stealing original content and making your own site rank lower due to their authority even though they have copied and there is nothing you can do about it.

This has happened to me several times. Get a good lawyer to draft up a letter and get the lawyer to send it to them via snail mail and email. best if the lawyer sends the correspondence directly. Usually this is enough to scare people into taking it down, especially when they know they are in the wrong. doesn't always work, but for me has worked often enough. When something like this happens I don't stress now, I go straight to the lawyer. if you can't afford an expensive lawyer, you should be able to pick something up off elance for $100 that will do the job fine.

You can use a plugin to disable right click which may discourage people like this from copy/paste, but if they really ant it they'll just copy manually...still, might be worth a shot.

Hire a ddos attack on the website, you can get them from $1 a hour. To safe a little money, you should hire the ddos for 1 hour, then turn it off for one hour, then put it on for 1 hour and repeat the pattern.

Then send a email from a anonymous IP adress and ask them to remove your articles.

If JavaScriped is disabled then it's pointless.

Have you tried contacting them and asking them to remove it?

If that doesn't work, try filing DMCA with their host. If they don't respond, you're out of luck.

Your content is your work, and is copyrighted . You should send them dmca notice. If something like that happened to me, I will not let go. Your expression, your idea, your rights...I can't stand people who are stealing the works of others.

Hi, We have a standard DCMA letter that you send to the hosting company. You can get one off the internet easily enough. Basically if you send a DCMA to the hosting company and they do not take it down after a time, the hosting company becomes liable as well.
    Hope that this helps.

Here is the lawyers part ( which you put into the letter as well )

This letter is the official notification under Section 512(c) of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ( "DCMA" ), and I seek the removal of the aforementioned infringing material from your servers. I request that you immediately notify the infringer of this notice and inform them of their duty to remove the infringing material immediately, and notify them to cease any further posting of the infringing material to your server in the future.

Please also be advised that law requires you, as service provider, to remove or disable access to the infringing materials upon receiving this notice. Under US law a service provider, as such yourself, enjoys immunity from a copyright lawsuit provided that you act with deliberate speed to investigate and rectify ongoing copyright infringement. If the providers do not investigate and remove or disable the infringing material the immunity is lost. Therefore, in order for you to remain immune from a copyright infringement action you will need to investigate and ultimately remove or otherwise disable the infringing material from your servers with all due speed should the direct infringer, your client, not comply immediately

Here is the first part -- put these two together and you have a letter. PS we have used this a few times and it works every time.

My Name is XXX and I am the owner of XXXs which owns XXX. A website that your company hosts is infringing on at multiple copyright items owned by my company.

An article was copied onto your servers without permission. The original articles to which we own the exclusive copyrights, can be found here; ( site link here )

The unauthorized and infringing copy can be found at:
    ( site link here )

See attached screen shot of words in pink from Copyrighted Search Results.

Register your content with G and copyscape, there are few others out there, once it happens, let them know. Make screen shots to have it as a proof. Either of them should send an email to hosting company and either they take it down within 24h or they might lose their website. I do not remember exact authority that does this. But thats the law and they must obey it. You can send a email to their hosting company first to warn them or the website with legal issues they might be facing. Dont need for a lawyer.

Welcome to the internet. A world of thieves whether it be people trying to steal and copy your products or just straight up take your content from your website.
