[Announcement] Introducing: The New BHW

Status
Not open for further replies.
Change the font weight and color for already read threads without new posts - on old dark theme it was clear, on new all the same and can't understand which thread has new posts and which doesn't.
P.S. Dell UltraSharp U2717D 27" IPS Monitor.

I like that the default font size has been increased, but noticed that the font size for sigs has simultaneously been reduced. A single banner now has more vertical space than 3 sig lines.

It's hard to tell a difference between a read and unread thread.

Unread threads should be more lighter/brighter, if possible.

Agree too, there is a slight boldness to unread threads but it looks to be font-weight:600 vs font-weight:400 and not very noticeable

As some of you have noticed, unread threads are slightly bolder (400 compared to 600 weight), but the leading unread indicator is the icon. This icon is present on both desktop and mobile and is the same as the forum list, which changes from grey to red when unread.

I cannot see any difference in font weight on my monitor.

Didn't know about unread icon.
For me it is white and disappears after reading thread.
Anyway, it is very uncomfortable - as eyes goes on the left by reading titles and icon is on the right.

Some of these banners are draggable. Some are not. You can literally move them into the "post box" accidentally.

I think the difference is that videos cannot be dragged at all and images can be.

If it's a feature and not something else, why is that? Why would anyone be able to move ads to post box? :p
This is nothing special. This will happen with any embedded image by default. If you add user-select: none to the css, it will become none draggable... I don't think that's necessary. :)

I would Suggest a new level of NIcknames for Members - As I understand "Elite" is the highest.

That's an interesting suggestion. You should open a thread in the forum suggestions and feedback section to see if anyone else supports this idea.

Maybe I am wrong, but I have a feeling that traffic and activity on BHW decreased after theme change

Improvement #1: When you visit the Feedback Page on mobile, it has a content cut off. (See Screenshot)

Improvement #2: I noticed that the current message for guests trying to access the Member Downloads page is "You must be logged-in to do that." It might be more user-friendly to update it to something like:
  • "To view Member Downloads, please log in or register if you don't have an account."
  • "Access to Member Downloads is restricted to logged-in users. Please log in or sign up to continue."
  • "Log in to access the Member Downloads section. Not a member yet? Register today!"

These updates could help guide new users better. Thanks!

Well, you called it, and yes, you are wrong. Fortunately, we don't measure on feelings but on our KPIs, and these are all showing either improvements or remaining constant. We don't claim the theme change has led to all the improvements in our KPI's as our admins and mod's must take a lot of the credit for that (both in-house and volunteers) especially around the speed they were narrowing down issues and then passing over with a synopsis of the great suggestions from the community.

We can't replicate what you are seeing on the mobile, maybe you could tell us the mobile and the browser you are using. We know from experience that not all mobile browsers are created equal, especially the ones that come pre-installed on some android devices. If you are using one of those maybe you could try a more mainstream browser first.

The theme changes and updates related to this thread have been static for a while now. I’d like to thank all those that have contributed to this discussion, some great ideas that we’ve been able to test and implement quickly some that we’ve got in our to do’s .
I’d like to thank the whole team for the engagement on this thread especially @Zwielicht for the management of it and the dev team for all their hard work, a true team effort.
As ever we welcome specific thoughts and ideas in our suggestions and feedback section. Please do use the search to check for previous threads as very often the question has already been answered or appears in our newbie guide.

Looking forward to all the benefits that our new theme affords us and our enhancements coming in over the next few months.
Cheers
