And this is why you should get rid of Wordpress...

Closed and for profit software may have it's own issues but they will never pull something like this.

I think Wordpress is fine to start out. But if you get serious traffic or popular, either hire someone to totally secure the site or become independent of Wordpress

It takes tiiiiiiiiiiime to learn to code, we lose time on marketing if we learn a non marketing skill, gotta make ROI better every week, month, year.

PS: I was always lazy to learn how to code because I lose time not doing ads
You mean you dont want to turn into that one man who handles all the company's departments' work? How lazy of you :suspicious:

Yes, never do that, in my marketing career debut, I was ending doing translations because I wanted to be the go to guy for everything, stick to your skills and bring the cash if you are a marketer.

OF course you should learn how to code, but who has the time for it?

I agree. It's not just time-consuming but if you stop doing it, you'd eventually forget it. It's not like riding a bike you know. Not to mention that frameworks, coding languages, technologies, etc are constantly being updated just like anything and everything that's tech-related. Staying on top of it is just really tough. Speaking as someone who tried coding, well ... I was far from being the best developer but I knew Swift, some Objective C, Php, Python, Django, Javascript, etc.

I found it really stressful to be a developer, I know 95% of Devs rely heavily on Stackoverflow and head to the nearest coffee or bar when SOF is down, but damn, its too much to learn unless you're good at it, like it and want to actually use the skills and become a developer or build your own SaaS.

I read all the drama that went on over this. RIP to everyone who uses a Russian IP for anything coupled with this node. Wiped their systems.

Yes, it's exactly what IT guys say when I speak to them. It's a difficult job and having a passion for tech is an absolute must or you will burn your soul in this field if you are bored to learn new things.

I personally do marketing/communication and manage a whole team in the company I work for. I am very bad with tech but I feel happy that this world allow marketers to express themselves and their idea with so much simplicity. Thanks to google analytics and other tools which makes it SO easy to have a data driven orientation.

I used to have the "I want to learn to code to be absolutely independent" mentality when building stuff but man, it's exhausting lol

Not saying marketing is easier, but marketing IS easier! Lol I mean look at yourself - they allowed a fish to run a whole team ;)

I think marketing is easier, but it's still a skill. And it requires an "it" factor I think. You can't fake trying to understand people if you are selfish and think only about your personal benefits.

It's exactly like on this forum. Instead of opening a thread about "how can I serve my target audience with the best message and product" people ask " how can I, me, myself, make 200 dollars a month".

Marketing is providing results, a transformation, not selling something. When people will understand brand messaging and be customer oriented, they will go way beyond what they do now.

As a fish who likes to help my target audience and understand them better and better every day... I see that competition is not so big, because most companies are only "product-centric", speaking about their products all day, everyday. it's not about the "what", but it's about the "who"...

I spend all day trying to explain this to the marketing and sales guys but some really don't get it.

Quite dumb to post something like this tbh, this has nothing to do with Wordpress, and saying that just because a few libs get compromised you have to do everything yourself is just bizarre. Every day I use thousands of different libs and packages that help me build software faster and better. Times, when you had to have your own lib for every day to day tasks, are long gone.

Wait

What has node-ipc to do with WordPress?

If I had to run my own code for just every single aspect of web development I do, I will still be struggling to finish my own full HTML site.

The GOOD part of GPL projects is exactly this: the same you are at risk the same you are safe that someone will spot it, alert and solve it. This is a community. Probably your neighbours are more worrisome against your life, than using other's code.

Point is, when you have a fuckton of dependencies that you can't control, and you don't have a way to check for vulnerabilities/exploits in your dependency tree, you are gonna end up with malicious code some day.

It's kind of surprising how WordPress sites aren't getting hacked left and right (well the small ones prolly are). WordPress and it's plugin ecosystem has a huge attack surface.

I kind of feel sad when people have to resort to something bloated like WordPress even for small stuff like some landing pages or small plain static blogs. Only if they knew most of their stuff would be made by static site generators like Jekyll or raw plain HTML/css and knew how to use them...

I make most of my content sites with Jekyll and I pay 0$ for hosting (free on netlify) cause of that.
Also has zero attack surface cause it's literally just html/CSS and js, and is more flexible than wp.

Yes learning to code and use something like Jekyll or Hugo does take time. But it has tremendous returns too.

No, it does not. Now run back to Starbucks, please.
