I hae 4 keywords that I want to target, all are really related. So far I've been targetting those exact 4 keywords exclusively. I am ranked in the 6-9 range for these keywords even though I have better on page, and more quality links than they do. I've checked the competitors links and most of the links dont even include the keywords that they are ranked for and I am targetting.

Does my link building look too unnatural. What do I need to do?

just try mixing up variations of your keyword.

    your keyword
    your keyword review
    your keyword information
    more information on your keyword
    your keyword click here

That will help reduce your footprint.

do NOT do this. since it contains your keyword in every anchor you create.

use anchor texts related to your keywords but does NOT contain your keyword to keep your density natural

Add some synonyms and relevant keywords in there too.

Try building some with just your URL as the anchor as well.
Make it look as natural as possible. If people were naturally linking to your site, chances are they wouldn't be using the exact kw's you want to rank for as anchor.

You always need to think how g will interpret it. The natural way of linking is a mixture, use the url, use a few kw anchors and also use a lot of "here" or "click here" too. This makes it look nice and organic.

Since I have thousands of links with my original 4 keywords are those consider lost now? Or if I start building other anchor text my % of exact keyword links will be less so will they start to hold weight?

Trying to fiigure out if a lot of what I have already done is going to go to waste?

if the traffic for your keyword is low, (under 25k a month) I wouldn't worry about leaving a footprint. If it is high, you can trigger a manual review, and if it looks unnatural, you could get a penalty.

I've been using about 4 variations. I'm going start doing keyword + info/review/etc...

I'm also going to be using synonyms and see if that helps as well.

    Bullshit.

I use this exact method along with mixing up the capitalization and throwing in a plural/singular version here and there and I'm ranking for every keyword I target.

I sware the more I read this forum lately the more I start to feel like you guys are over thinking SEO. Stop being afraid of the big bad google monster and build some Fn links!
