analyzing twitter traffic

Hey guys, I had tried getting traffic from twitter before but either wasn't successful or didn't know how to measure it.
So now I am using twitterfeed to post from my RSS feed of jobs to twitter and using bit.ly as the URL shortener. From twitterfeed's site I can see that I am getting clicks, but in my analytics I can't. I am guessing that they blank the referrer and they show up as "direct" traffic.
Does anyone have an idea on this one and/or tips on how I can really see what is coming in from this avenue.

You can't get a good estimate unless you make a duplicate of your index page for example, yourdomain.com/twittertraffic

and go to google analytics and you will see there the real results.

if you don't do this you will see a lot of visits from yahoo mail and stuff.

So is google analytics more trust worthy than other counters, generally speaking?

Most twitter users use desktop applications - which will show no referer. The best bet is to use a URL shortening service that tracks clicks and just go by that.

I also find it dificult to identify how much actual traffic I am getting from Twitter, although some of my traffic I see from my site traffic reports do show twitter/username (whatever it might be) it still does not feel like it is showing all the traffic I am getting from Twitter.

these services present false results. It's not there fault. It's because most services, for example bit.ly count also the bot clicks.

Like I recommended above, the best method I know is just make a separate page, the same as your home page: http://www.yourpage.com/twitter

Keep in mind that many people click your twitter link from their mail so you will also see in your analytics visits from "mail.yahoo.com" and those visits are in fact from twitter.

I tried to get small traffic for my adsense but ironically i got a good PPC traffic for it.

when people click on shortened links through a desktop/mobile app or on the web, would analytics show that as "direct" traffic? i get the mail stuff, but never see any bit.ly, although bit.ly does report a large number of clicks
