I'm quite new to developping web apps. Are there any good books I can read as an intro to scalability?

Right now, my medium term project is to integrate something like phpscheduleit with asterisk so that it can robocall to set reminders for appointments.
I won't likely need more then a single server, but and who knows? Worse that can happen is that it furthers my own knowledge.

    Thanks BHW.

Have you considered looking into cloud based solutions (Amazon SC3 for content, EC2 for your servers with autoload)For scaling databases, look into nonsql types like MongoDB, Cassandra, or Riak. Read about sharding and replication.
