Just bouncing this idea around - to see if anyone thinks its a good idea, or if there is already something like it:

I get really annoying logging in to different social platforms - like twitter, Skype, Facebook etc - Facebook really annoys me as there is so much junk on there, but all my friends use it so I miss out if I'm not on there.

So I was thinking of a really basic interface - like a cross between gmail and IRC, that brings you everything that involves you from all social platforms - like an inbox, but you can directly interact from that inbox, without going "offsite" to each separate platform.

Would there be a need for something like that? Or is there any program's/apps that do this already?

That will be an amazing stuff. But it will be unbelievably complex - and will take a long time to build.

Yea, most of these platforms have an api though so should be doable. I may start to build it for my own benefit (FB and Skype in particular), and if enough people thought it was a good idea then I might develop it more thoroughly, or look for some partners.

Looks good, but it's only desktop, no web interface or app by the looks of it.
You did prompt me to do a bit more searching though, and I found http://IMO.im which looks pretty much what I described, only shame is it doesn't include viber:)

Looks good as well. Shame both the apps don't include other Facebook interactions such as event invites, photo tagging etc...

You can always go with your idea and make something better but will it be worth it? I don't think it will.

    Davids355 -

Facebook is trying to squeeze every penny out of the platform possible, if you try and build an App that takes people off the platform I think Zuckerburg will come round your house and try to kill you, slowly.

All jokes aside if this app were to get any traction all platforms would make it as difficult as possible for it to interact successfully as you are taking bread off their table, you may want to take on a less aggressive foe like big oil and build an electronic car or something!

Personally, I like the idea though.

Fair point. It's sort of self driven though, cos I really want a way for myself to access Facebook and Skype without actually going on there:)

But I do appreciate this is the sort of thing that wouldn't make money.
I just thought I'd mull the idea over, get some opinions, and when I get time I might just take a look at the social Apis and have a go for my own benefit...
