I found this facebook auto like service, which allows you to send instant likes to a facebook status, comments, photos etc..anyway, i have this friend on facebook who i've been keeping in touch with for the past two years, i thought i'd send a bunch of likes to her profile picture, but she had it set to friends only, not public, in order to get likes from this service you need it set to public..so instead i sent them to her sisters picture which was set to public..so last night, i was talking to my friend online and i told her i sent all those likes to her sisters picture, she told her sister and she started freaking out, and she went complaining to her mother who is also friends with me on facebook, and they both messaged me, abusing me and talking about how they think she's got a whole lot of stalkers after her now, EVEN though i explained plenty of times that all it is is the system using different profiles on behalf to send likes..I spent hours explaining how it's nothing to wory about and i didn't have bad intentions etc but they were flipping out to the point where the mother is saying she wants to get the cops involved, and even though i've told her about ten times that i didn't post her picture anywhere online and no one even saw it, she says i have until tomorrow to remove her picture from whereever i posted it or she'll ring the police on me..

This is totally ridiculous, I've had enough with facebook so i deleted my profile, never creating one again. I can't believe how stupid people can be.

Facebook users are notoriously credulous and feeble. However, you should understand that not everyone is going to have a positive reaction to "strangers" suddenly liking their photos.

Think of it like this: before you discovered Internet marketing and these tools, how would you have reacted to hundreds or thousands of unknown and dubious profiles suddenly up voting your pictures? You have to understand that the average Facebook user cannot comprehend Internet marketing or any tools associated with this field, so when they see those profiles "liking" their pictures, they don't think, "hey, look, my sister's horny friend used a Facebook auto like service to send a bunch of fake Facebook likes to my photo to make me feel better about myself! How nice of him! He deserves a little dessert tonight", they see the fake likes and think, "Who are these strangers!? Am I being stalked!? Is someone going to hack into my Facebook profile!? Oh no, they might know where I live! I might get raped! How did they find me!?...".

Anyway, did you ever actually settle your issue with the girl's mother and sister? If I were you, I would send an apology and tell them that you "removed the picture" (since that's how they seem to think it works), let them know that it will never happen again, and then block them on Facebook. It just seems like a bad idea to delete your Facebook without tying up that loose end, especially if you knew them outside of Facebook.

The reality is you clearly have a fancy for this girl and thought it would impress her but actually made you look like a weird 15 year old.

Sounds like the GF is a 1/3 wit, the sister is a 1/3 wit and the mother is a 1/3 wit and I bet you think it would be a good idea to marry into this inbred clan of 1/3 wits?

This is hilarious and I've met people like this. Paranoid people who think everything in the world is bad and there's nothing but evil out there can be the worst

why did you buy likes for her?i guess you thought it was i nice gesture, but put yourself in her shoes, you post a pic of yourself and suddenly 1000's of of ppl start liking it, how would you react?

i understand her reaction, ppl dont know what happens on the internet, for all she knows those are real ppl not fakes.

I agree, what you did was not okay and seems to let you look like a fool.

But... but...why did you send those likes to her anyway?

I think most people consider Facebook quite a private thing - people put a lot of personal info on there, thinking that only their friends will see it.

and as said above, the average person is not aware of IM and the tools used, and would not be able to comprehend that all of those users could be fake.

so now they are panicking and thinking that thousands of strangers have seen all of her private stuff!

i would just try to understand it from their point of view, and just apologise to them, and that's the end of it then.

What if the girl has confidence issues, is painfully shy, has been bullied, abused or victimised before?

Is her reaction still stupid?
Is her mother's reaction still stupid?

Fake likes or not, she didn't ask you to do it and you didn't ask her permission, so you invaded her privacy.

You didn't think first and now you are blaming other people for the consequences of your own actions.

What makes you think, people love 'likes' from strangers ? It might be easy for you as you are in internet marketing, but its hard to make others believe that there's something called 'bot' that can auto-like.
I don't understand why most people think that whoever uploads his/her pic on FB, wants some attention.

Well, as for me, there are some people who would be thrilled to have their pictures going "viral"

But well, people are particularly paranoid about been followed or stalked.

If you're trying to impress this girl, you aren't off to a very good start. Obviously they would have that reaction, not everyone knows there are such things as 'automated likers' for Facebook. It just looks like a whole bunch of strange men have been stalking her profile because of you.

Your title is most fitting for you.

I was definitely NOT trying to impress her, her sister (my Facebook friend) wondered how I was getting so many likes to my stuff, so I wanted to show her by sending them (they are free by the way) her photo, but she had it set to friends only, so I sent them to the next closest person to her, just to demonstrate how easy it is to someone who was curious. I don't know about you, but I think they are overreacting and I'm certainly not going to apologise for sending FACEBOOK LIKES. I'll just leave then to live with their stupidity for the rest of their lives..

what you said is true, but it makes a huge difference when I spent hours with them explaining the details of how it works and there's absolutely nothing to worry about.

Pewep is whom came to my mind as soon as I read the thread title but I guess this thread is about you OP.

You don't "demonstrate" your skills where peoples privacy are involved. You shoulda backed off as soon as you realized "your facebook friend"'s account is set to private. The likes are not gonna be removed no matter what you do and I bet it's going to haunt you for a long time. Hope you learnt your lesson the hard way.

You should have set up a dummy profile and sent the likes there rather than to her sister's profile to demonstrate it. Better yet, you could have remained vague and mysterious and told them you have "connections".

You don't have to apology for sending the Facebook likes, but you should at least apologise for startling them.

Did you ever visit an amusement park when you were younger? Were you ever scared of riding on a large or intimidating roller coaster despite being told by family, friends, and staff that you're safe and there's nothing to worry about?

This is the same situation. You can spend all the time you like telling them that it's safe, but unless they actually use and understand these tools themselves or receive an explanation from a "reliable" source, they may never figure it out.
