Okay, so I'm pretty much a typical redneck...really. Now, I have noticed over the years the astounding number of Europeans, Canadians and Asians I have known and encountered across the internet. Something I would never otherwise experience.

Either way, I just happened to see this world news show (WorldFocus) and they had a story saying Americans don't care about world issues...Shit. Man, come on now. I know people in other places probably think that's true, but I think it's crraaa-zy!

    Shout back BHW.

It doesn't matter what World News thinks...
What matters is the Papers in the Bank.
No time for caring at a world that won't buy you diapers or food.

The issues I care about are at home.

    What goes around, comes around.

Many people in a lot of countries don't care about others and when they find themselves in a situation of need expect others to help/care.

Sometimes it's good to kick back and appreciate what you have and recognise the misfortune of others and how lucky 99% of us on here are.

I think one of the main issues, is the fact you guys in the US are always in the spotlight, so the odd dumb and ignorant comment can soon get blown out of proportion and applied as a stereotype to the whole nation.

Why are you even worrying about what's in the media? They always need something controversial to somewhat improve dull news days.

Not really our heads are up our ass.We have a government that keeps the majority fighting over small things while it runs roughshod over other countries.I live hear but I know we don't care about whats happening around the rest of the world.

I think it's less that they (we) don't care but that most don't know. The majority of Americans I know are remarkably undereducated or incorrectly educated about the rest of the world so it just doesn't occur to them that things are happening on a global scale that they should be concerned about...which is one reason I don't live in the US anymore. :)

So if we dont care about world issues why is that every time there is a world crisis of some type we are at the forefront of aid or anything else going on in the world.

Don't know but you but I don't identify myself as nationalistic. As long as my guts are full and my wallet is buffed, I really don't care. It's rich vs poor and always has been.

That's the government. That's not Joe Schmoe sitting in his LaZ Boy watching the game. And when the regular citizens do get involved it's generally only for HUGE (Katrina, Haiti, etc.) events and they generally only stay involved as long as those things are on the front page/lead story.

Also in my experience they only get involved in the "sexy" issues. The ones that they can brag about donating to because everyone else is donating to it so if they don't they look like assholes. But, if you ask them where Darfur is or what's going on in the DRC they'll look at you like you're insane.

I'm just speaking from my experience working in Congress and for several multinational NGOs in DC (most of them Human Rights orgs). It certainly doesn't apply to everyone, but in my experience, for most people apathy is strong unless it's a lead story or directly impacting their lives.

American's think they're the best in the world. They've been programmed to believe they're the master race/nation. The USA has been branded over time as the worlds best and richest country to live in. The US is a waring nation. Always at war historically since they first became a nation. One of their biggest industries is arms. Then it can't hurt to have the Federal Reserve run by world banking cartels, basically a license to print money. But to answer your question, ya you do care about world issues. Angelina Joelie is in Haiti right now handing out water to get press coverage to keep her in the limelight. You're taking over Iraq and Afganastan, for oil and popies in the name of giving the people their freedom. With all that who needs to ever be humble and thanksful for what you have. Anyway, I'm just rambling ha ha. Actually I like visiting the US, VEGAS BABY!

Commence the bashing of the American government by radicals and bashing of America in general by anyone who doesn't live in it.

I'd love to debate this but I believe politics are against the rules here.
