American Citizen in Romania

don't worry about it, if you're an american and dont have a company in Romaina you shouldn't worry but still i would advise you to seek the counsel of a lawyer just to be sure ;)

if the city you live in is the one mentioned at your profile then you are 100km away from where i type :P

Lol with Romania you're worried about taxes?:))
I'm living in Romania and never filled any tax forms.

If you're planning on coming back to the US then file taxes regardless of the amount. Don't listen to people telling you not to. You will run into problems later if you don't. Many people can just file a 1040EZ which is fairly simple to fill out.

Filing an extension is super easy. An "Extension" is a way to ask the IRS for more time to file your tax return. The deadline to file your 2010 return is April 18, 2011. Form 4868 will extend the deadline by six months. With an extension, your deadline to file a tax return is October 17, 2011

The only way to get money from someone who is earning too litte to be taxed, is by fining him. If you don't file, you'll be exposing yourself to this 'alternative' method to suck more money from the unfortunate. There is no good reasin to hide, esp. if earning less than what's taxable. Worst case scenario they decide you are earning a lot and tax you as if your income were $500 000 or something.

I dont agree with that...I am a british citizen but my income comes from Gibraltar (tax free) and from the USA and have never had any problems with taxes since I started my internet businesses 11 years ago...

Your situation is not the same. Americans have an obligation to file their income tax annually wherever they are. Actually, come to think of it, Brits have the same obligation if they're UK domiciled (although this is a different topic). You are a British citizen and your US income is probably covered by the US / UK tax treaty because you either don't have any US effectively connected income, or a permanent establishment in the USA, hence you "never had problems".

TALK TO A LAWYER...i got audited because I didn't have a good lawyer...IRS is very powerful and YES they'll get you even in Romania
