I have been considering using Amazon as an affiliate on my website however I'm not sure exactly how it works, if someone has used it before could you please explain.

The beauty of the Amazon program is the variety of ways that they give you to link to their products. Even using just their basic tools on the Associates page you have the option to link to products using text links, pictures, buttons and a variety of keyword triggered techniques.

Amazon’s affiliate program pays out in either gift vouchers (to be spent in the store), cheque (check) or direct deposit (if you’re in the US).

    Amazon Associates Program Cons:

    * only quarterly payments (many other programs are monthly)
    * commissions can be lower than some other programs (although they have an incentive/bonus program that increases the % when you sell certain targets)
    * incentive program can be a little complicated to understand
    * some of their buttons and link methods are a little dated
    * not great on some products internationally (ie while Amazon will send books and some products internationally some of the bigger ticket items will not be sent overseas. So if you have a non US readership you might have to also sign up for other Amazon affiliate programs (ie they also have a UK, Canadian, Japanese one etc this can get a little messy)).

I'd have to disagree with you jojo...I buy all my stuff at amazon. There prices are so much lower than say bestbuy or barns and noble. True Ebay is cheap too, it all depends on what your looking to buy.
Also if you are a "Prime" member (meaning you pay $79 a year) you get Free 2nd day shipping on all products and overnight shipping for only $3.99 regardless of the product size. This feature has come in handy so many times when I have been in a bind and needed an item ASAP.

I agree with Blackhat with this. I think that Amazon are great as a etailer, and working with them as an affiliate is great. They have so many products you are more than likely to find something you can sell on your site.

I sent an e-mail to amazon uk a while ago and they said that they no longer run their affiliate program. This might be why you can't get a link to it., lol.

Thats too wish they paid more! I think I would make more money working for McDonalds part time :D
You need a lot of sites or a lot of traffic when working for amazon at least this is my personal opinion. Your results may vary and if they do please let me know!
