Ok so i have some domains which i have listed on Sedo for sale and this morning i got an email from a guy who in interested in my domain name (Its in the iphone unlock niche.) asking me abt my offer price. I got back to him with my price and he has just responded offering me something $500 less that what i had qouted.

He has now told me that he would like me to do an independent valuation and below is his email

    Code:
I just spoke to my attorney. We need a professional valuation (appraisal) first. Without such valuation (appraisal) we cannot be 100% sure in the final sale price. The appraisal will help determine the true value of your domain's worth so you can maximize profits during the sale. On the other hand, it will minimize my risks too.

Of course, we must engage an independent valuation company with a manual service. I don't trust automated services from companies I've never heard about.

Moreover, I prefer appraisal service that also verifies possible trademark infringements. It's important for me to know that you domain has no problems with trademarks. You should not worry about it. You don't need to pay for this trademark verification service. Some good appraisers include this option (trademark infringement verification) as a free bonus to the appraisal service.

To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal services with the trademark verification option. Please check this blog with suggestions from other sellers and buyers:
    http://www.forum-windows-club.com/Archive/350142697.htm

If, for example, the valuation comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly. It will be fair. I also hope you can give me 12% - 15% discount.

After you send me the professional valuation via email (usually it takes about oned ays to obtain it) we'll continue our negotiations.

I am thinking he wants me to buy a domain appraisal service which is basically his company and it will come back with a ridiculous figure and he'd have blackhatted me into buying a service.

what do you think? Should i proceed?? It will cost me abt $50 to appraise and he is offer me about $9K for the two domains i have offered him.

    cheers

I think he pretends that he wants to buy, i would suggest not to buy anything. Just sell him your domains and thats all. Dont listen what he offer you to buy.

Probably you will spend $50 and wont sell domains to him because he just want you to buy something for $50

    Thats what i think

Naah, don't do anything he wished! If he really wants to spend his 9K, he should have known your sites' value.

I agree with the above posts. If he wants a valuation he should do it by himself, he is just trying to get you to pay for a bogus valuation and no plans to actually buy those domains.

Tell him he is the buyer, and do his due diligence. It is not your job to do it for him. Furthermore you are an honest broker, and he can check you out however he wishes. Tell him you are satisfied as to the valuation, and refer some appraiser to HIM. In fact, I would contact Meathead and see if you can swing a referral fee, the suggest to this guy to use your recommended appraiser, Meathead, since he does not have one. Seriously, you don't have time to mess with people who are only interested in wasting your time. This guy is not a buyer.

If I were buying I would be asking about mailing lists, unique content, platform, I sure as hell would not tell you to get it appraised and if the value was higher you should charge me more. He is jerking your chain.
