Well I'm doing KW research and amazon are taking the top 3 spots for most of them. Some only have them as the top spot though and different websites like the huffington post and other media in the middle.

As for the amazon sites that I want to outrank (all results are from market samurai):

    They have no page backlinks.
    PR is 4.
3bil domain backlinks (I don't thin this matters too much).
They are in the DMOZ and Yahoo directories.
The keyword isn't in the title, url, description or the header.

If it were any other site I would go for it. But I guess I'm just a bit worried about it being amazon.com Maybe searchers will also skip my number 1 site when they see the amazon page. What do you guys think? Have any of you had any success outranking amazon?

    Cheers :)

Amazon, Ebay, BestBuy and similar sites aren`t optimized for the kws you try to rank. They rank cause of the authority. Most of the kws are easy to rank higher than these sites with proper on-page seo and with some of the links.

    Cheers

Yes. I've outranked websites with more. But please tell me something new, as I still consider myself a noob.

Thanks for the positive response mate. The on page SEO is very poor.

Only one way to find out I guess.

From experience, google has a completely different site of rules for huge e-commerce sites such as Amazon. My honest advice would be to forget about it and move on to an even better keyword. It's honestly not worth the time and money you would have to spend, but it's your decision and take on-board what other members are saying too.

No, i have rank for a keyword just in two weeks and amazon/ebay has the top 3 spot. Am currently sitting on the 1 spot now. So outranking amazon site is pretty easy.

What you must know is many of those top sites earned themselves
the top position by virtue of trust and not backlink.

If you can work on sending quality backlinks to your site
in no time you can outrank them from your BL.

Instead of fighting Amazon, why not list your product on Amazon and then try to rank high within Amazon? Much greater chance of success. Try the Amazon Money Machine course, pretty detailed information: http://affiliates.azmoneymachine.com/affiliates/

That would be great if I had the product, or was the owner of the product I'm affiliating.

Amazon is usually easy to outrank, they are there by default. I've outranked them, the few times I was ranking terms that they were ranked for. I would still be outranking them, but switched business models, so no longer competing for those keywords.

I have outranked Amazon, eBay, and Wikipedia in the past for some hyper-competitive keywords for a client last year.

If you have a good backlink profile and on site optimization you will be fine

For me this is a good indicator that there is less competition for the keyword.

That's good to hear. I'm about to enter Amazon affiliate program, and they are literally ranking for every product :p

From what I've seen, outranking amazon/ebay is not science-fiction. P.S: I'm not talking about this case specificaly, this one doesn't really seem to easy for my personal opinion.

I never dealt with eBay, just heading in that direction, bumped into this:

    - eBay 1st, 0 backlinks, no onpage: http://prntscr.com/33jeli
    - eBay 2nd, 0 backlinks, no onpage: http://prntscr.com/33jeu6 (first one ranking only due to few links and title tag?)

This should be pretty easy I guess?

You can always outrank these sites. It may seem impossible but its completely possible to get your site above amazon, etc. However of course, you need to consider that your site is different from that of Amazon's. Like what everyone here says, Amazon is ranking because it is considered as authority site and another, an e-commerce site. If you have a very similar site with Amazon, it may be easier to outrank Amazon. However, in my opinion why bother outranking Amazon on SERPs when you can also get traffic from social media sites, right? :)

You can outrank them for some keywords but not everything. I talk from experience.
