Hi guys, first off, thx for the great support and patience from this great community!
I'm just starting out, could you take a minute and review my strategy for ranking my site?

    1. Using g keyword search tool, I found a medium competition keyword string that gets searched over 100,000 times a month
    2. I went on go daddy and bought the keyword based domain but it has dashes (i.e. key-words-here) Dashes aren't necessarily seo killers in domains right?

    3. build the site (microsoft frontpage) using the exact keyword phrase in titles, headings, and content, but not over do it.
-Question: Does page count matter on SEO rankings?? I can't see the entire website being more than about 5-10 pages tops.

    4. Should I pay for a blogroll? I would like to keep it in the niche and have PR5 or higher referrals right?
I'm a bit worried that if i outsource blogs/articles to the wrong outlets, I may be blacklisted on g?
    5. Start a blog on wordpress and plug the website without looking like a salesman.
    6. get referral backlinks from gov and edu websites How the heck am I going to do that!!! I lost Jack Bauer's phone number hahaha!
    7. Do a profile link blast. <I still don't know what that is.>
    8. Do a press release- Is this DIY or do i need to get a PR firm?

I will need to do all of this slowly so the big G doesn;t think I am not a human right?

If you could point me in the right direction if I am way off that would be cool!
Tnx for your patience and guidance everyone!

Make sure it is exact search volume!

Dashes in domain is not a big concern. You can still rank for your keywords.

Google loves frequently updated, content rich sites so find some long tail keywords in your niche and add some articles for the same.

Purchasing blogroll from your niche related high PR site is good considering the link relevance

What do your mean by blacklisting here? You mean drop in rankings? yes, only if you do keyword stuffing. You can hire some quality writers here.

    That would be fine.

    Search the forum
You can do it yourself or hire link builders who do PR submission.

Damn... I clicked "exact" and monthly search volume went from 100,000+ to 720.
    :(

That sucks man... Is there anyway I'd be able to IM to take advantage of the other 99,000 broader search queries?
My heart just sank into my stomach...

Before doing anything else. Double check your keyword and see if you ticked the EXACT match on keyword tool.

Ouch. We were too late. Sucks to hear that mate. Just search for a new keyword, this time make sure that tick that fucker to avoid further "heart sinking to stomach" situations.

If you don't have the budget, take your keyword and look for long tail ultra targeted exact phrases of it. Regardless of the search volume, if it's 500-700+ exact searches per month.

If your keyword is "buy beer" you could search for other keywords like "buy cheap beer online"

    You get what I mean.

I'll keep at it. The domain was actually a "premium domain" from godaddy with a hefty price tag. I will have to make it work.

100,000 times a month and medium competition? Impossible! Check the exact match searches in Google Keyword Tool.

One dash is not that bad. Two dashes... is something to avoid :D

Yes, page count does matter. Install wordpress as a subfolder and add some content related to your niche.

    Buy Scrapebox instead.

Sure, create as many web 2.0 properties as possible for backlinks.

Offer your sysadmin at school / university a beer :p

    It's a backlink placed on a 3rd party site.

I don't know but I would guess not.

Don't think twice when you see a good link opportunity.

Thanks Webmast. It seems that everyone agrees that I fucked up on the exact vs broad search criteria when deciding on the domain. I can still bring a bit of traffic with 720 exact queries a month though right?? Please say yes.
    :)
I am currently looking for long string queries to use as my domain but I don't think people will click on something like buymyproductonlineinsandiegoforsale dot com even if it's the #1 result on the google ranking!
    Hahahahaha!

Even if the domain is buymyproductonlineinsandiegoforsaleDOTcom you can still monetize this IF the long tail keyword is really targeted. I have some sites that earns me a decent amount of $$$ per month with only 800 searches per month. I receive about 400+ visitors from that 800 and 60+ people converts into a sale every month. Just be smart on choosing your keyword.

I'm not sure it's worth it. It depends on the keyword.
Don't go for something like "free facebook backgrounds" :D

Rule number one is kw research, mess that up and your whole campaign is stuffed. Do some proper kw research and change things before you start the seo.

How targeted is that word? It sounds like you picked a fantastic keyword and worked hard on it.

    NOW you tell me?!?!?!

hahaha... This was an expensive lesson... I'm using Market Samurai, google wonderwheel scraper, and serpattacks, but I still can't find a keyword string in my niche that has a low-med competition level...
    :(

    any ideas?

I actually like going for the ultra low competition keywords. 720/m / 30 days = 24/day. This traffic will be highly targeted. As long as your sales page is good it should convert quite a few.

I dont know how your monetizing it (CPA/Amazon - Hopefully not adsense IMO). But if you get $10 for those 24 visitors, then just build 10 similar sites and youve got $100/day.

It is a numbers game after all ;)

You need to get that site listed on social media networks. Make sure you have official pages on the big networks.
