We're seeing various threads about packets of backlinks from the Warrior Forum, but am I right in saying that you can simply steal a competitors backlinks by using yahoo site explorer?

That way, you never have to worry about buying backlink packets.

Can someone clear this up?

Sure, you can do this. But sometimes it's not easy to figure out where the profile page is located and how to put the links there. Products like Angela's monthly packets provide step by step instructions.

it doesnt show up everything.. it shows like 10-30% at most

well if it shows 10 to 30 percent, is there a tool which is more accurate? Or any recommendations?

This is one of the oldest tricks in the books, but it works. Using Yahoo Site Explorer is great for seeing your competition's backlinking strategy.

This might be a dumb question and I was thinking about this last night. But when google sees all these people getting backlinks from the same sources wont they know somethings up?

You would think so but....no. Not in the short/medium term anyway.

Luckily, Google has an aversion to employing too many people to manually weed out spam links. Their automated system is good but it's clearly not good enough. I am able to secure rankings again and again using the same old spam sites.

Linkscape from SEOMoz.org probably has the most complete list of backlinks outside of the big search engines. They claim to have over 54 billion URLs indexed. It's a paid service but if you really want a full list of backlinks for a particular page/site including anchor text and if it's do/nofollow, Linkscape is your best bet.
