Am I breaking BHW rules in any way here?

So as some of you may know I have a website where I make free software for people to help them growth their online business. The address is http://www.supagrowth.com/no-opt.

I was originally collecting e-mails because I posted the initial thread in the wrong section so didn't read that you're not allowed to do that. Once I found that out I put in the no-opt link so users could freely download the tools without entering their email. And the mods were ok with that as long as I clearly stated to use that link.

I decided against the whole email opt in thing in the end so I just go rid of it completely and now I just include it if case I ever go back to email collecting, unlikely but I don't want to break that rule.

So what I'm asking is if I'm posting links to my free software on my website is that breaking any rules in any way before I make a thread for each of my tools to gather feedback etc? And also eventually (6-12 months maybe longer) when I do monitise it I'm going to have to back and request all the threads are deleted? I know the software will always be 100% free though so, if I'm bundling trails or something with it but its still 100% free is that breaking the rules?

I did read the stickies but my situation doesn't really seem to be covered by most of the points it makes. Obviously I'm keep to share my tools but I don't want to use the forum to promote my website if its deemed an abuse and get banned :-(

    Thanks guys!

As helpful you want to be, I learned one thing from the mods/admin here on BHW. Rules apply to anybody, no exceptions are made... :/

Ask the Mods if you can put "code" tags around the DL link, will it be acceptable, provided all other rules including non-collection of user identities; and putting up a VT analysis score are followed to the T. :) Also may be your freebies should be in Freebies section only (or in the Downloads section), and also it should be in a Mod-approved thread. It can be a pain to follow so many things, but it is actually a good pita for all concerned if you consider the advantages. :)

OR put the link in your Sig space if you're allowed to, and get it mod approved. Is the current one the same one you're talking about?
    P.S.:
    It actually is!

Yes I agree there should be lots of rules around it. I can see how its easily abused. Think I'm just going to PM the mod I spoke to last time :)

    I didn't really report you. :)

The only place that collecting emails from members is mentioned is in the freebies section.

    If I were you, I would assume it's a "forum-wide" rule.

I got rid of the email collection like months ago ha! ;-) Like i said I just leave that no-opt link in case i ever go back which I'm 99% sure I won't. No one wants to share their email in IM/SEO everyones too smart hehe.

What did you use to make that gif btw lol

I used Windows Expression Encoder 4 as screen capture software and a generic WMV to GIF converter so that I could upload it to Imgur.

This explains why this thread still hasn't fully "loaded" after like five minutes.

I'll try to reduce the size right now.

Just to this point alone I would say it is probably not okay because it's not truly free anymore.

    As per this rule:

"The download section is an area of BHW where you can share something with the community. If you wish to share something, it must be shared FREELY - with no strings attached and with no motives to promote your site, your services, or your product."

    http://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/no-promotions-in-the-download-section.200475/

Also, keep in mind this also means no bait and switch, don't get everyone to download your free software and all of a sudden a soft paywall pops up to continue using it (collecting emails, CPA, or anything like that)

If you want to monetize later, why not just open up a marketplace thread for your software which would allow you to collect emails or monetize in other ways (still probably not bundling but don't quote me on that).

I have no intention of not making it free ever. Im certain it will always be free with no barriers. I guess I'll have to think about my future business model more.

Once you figure that out it will probably be in your best interest to open a Marketplace thread anyways, that way you can promote your brand even if the software is free. At least you can have a contact email or some branding in there. Depending on your business model this could attract clients. And overall a marketplace thread would get a lot more attention and have a longer lifespan (typically) than say a download section thread.

Also, it is extremely low cost compared to the attention it could attract.
