is this normal? sometimes I feel so proud and I feel like I really know seo. sometimes I feel like such a fraud and I feel like I cant rank shit. I think my feeling depends on Google updates, or if my rankings change for some reason.

I am just curious how I compare to my competition. How can I find out at what percentile I fall within all SEOs?
what I mean is x% of SEOs are better than me at this game. y% are worse than me. How can I find out what x and y are?

Well, you asking if there is a ranking scale that determines your ability to rank websites kind of tells me you would land outside the percentile. Probably around mars, or something.. Venus

You are not sure about your quality right? Something you can rank and sometimes not. Basically it depends on the solid planning. When you can do better plan then success otherwise not. It's simple. Try to know more about SEOs.

Really? I found the question to be a valid question actually. Outside yourself, I am confident that some of us have experienced the same feeling and wondered how we ranked. If you think about it instead of bump your gums...wouldn't it make sense to know how you compared to the competition. Competitive analytics? Maybe he strives to do well, and sees that in doing well he still faces challenges, so he's wanting to measure and compare, then plan or redirect his energy in hopes of increasing rank.
Let me break it down for you. That's a reasonable question, your response however, pretty well reflects your ignorance.
Consider showing some kindness, and maybe acting like you're here for a reason. If you aren't, then move along, but don't piss on others posts.

Everyone goes through this at some point during their SEO career. I know I have. I know SEO pretty well and even I have had those moments where you just feel like Google is kicking your ass and feel like everyone else seems to just be better at SEO than you but the truth is whenever I've just ignored those feelings and kept working the plan I've always ended up ranking very high in Google for the terms I'm targeting.

I'm confident in my abilities. I see myself as very good and that I can rank anything I want if I put the work in. SEO is a very special skill, not a lot of people can do it. Even if you are okay, it's a pretty big accomplishment.

I feel like that right now. I know a lot about SEO but 99% of my projects fail however my buddy who was way worse on page optimization and more spammy looking PBNs always ranks high and makes big bucks... I just don't get it im following all the guides and playing it super safe without footprints and diversification blablabla and he just fucking buys links and point a few trashy PBNs and ranks #1.

Why does it matter? Only thing you should be worrying about is if you are better than the guys your are competing with in your niche. Beyond that you are just wasting mental energy.

It was a joke and not meant to be taken seriously. Everyone needs some ribbing from time to time, it keeps humans normal.

OP, one of the best things you can do is get yourself a cheap Ahrefs account off Fiverr. From there analyze the backlinks from the top dogs in your niche, you're guaranteed to find some web 2.0s in there. Once you have around 5 links or so, take a look at them and compare their quality to the quality of your own web 2.0s. Do the same for their PBN that Ahrefs still crawled and listed, their EDU blog posts, EDU profiles, etc.

Compare yourself. If you're making better stuff, you're on the right track. If you get that shitty feeling inside of you that you know you're not beating them, you'll have to step up your game.

There's my input for this thread.

I don't think about that. And I don't think anybody should because the only thing you should be focusing on is yourself and the work. I also have a lot knowledge about SEO and I know that most of the projects I am working on today will fly to infinity in a matter of weeks nevermind thinking if I am better than anybody or if anybody is better than me. Ultimately, I could care less.

Like Acceleratorsaid, it's just wasting mental energy.

Being aware of your performance and competitive rank is nothing but wisdom. Take time to develop your interests, expand your network and discover new sources and information. Build your brand and expand your core offerings so your relationships do the same. Take some time to search the My IM journey section. I think you'll find t0mmy shares considerable experience and respect for the work that's required. He's done well, but he's earned it. Read his valuable insight here for marketers on any level.

Explore an area relative to your core profession.
Explore it with the right attitude and you'll be rewarded in many ways.

Personally I feel less concerned with how I stand among my competition and more concerned with my performance.
For me, what matters is my rank in the eyes of those I service, so I objectively work to get better and deliver beyond expectation.
From exploring sources to network expansion there's unlimited ways to improve.

Customer engagement should be focused on 2 areas:
    1) What you're providing
    2) What you're not providing

Measure what you're doing and respond accordingly to improve. You'll quickly find your way to the top.

    Best of luck firstnamelastname

I agree with this. If you're beating the competition in your niche, then you're good enough. That's all that matters.

Outranking the competition with results that stick well (as long as Google allows) is the sign of a good seo.

Somebody started babbling about customer service blah blah shit me man if you can't do what I said in the first sentence your a twat for taking on customers full stop.

Fecking snake oil is everywhere and giving everyone a bad name

Dude why are you complaining? In your other post you said you made $450k in 2 years. You could just hire someone to make a fuckin top notch PBN network exclusively for you?

I never believe people when they brag about making $ publicly. But fellow Canadian, you got my hopes up... but.. after further digging, you are no different.

I really do not think that there is an answer for this. Yes there are days when you will be on top and others, not so much. But I would not mess around with trying to find a way to determine this. Just continue to learn SEO and you will only get better.

The quote in your post from the OP, he really posted that? He actually typed out those words when instead he could have been writing content, spinning content, developing backlinks, checking keyword density, researching some long tails, or comparing competition?

He answered his own question within that post.
