    Hey Buds,

Was just doing a name search on Godaddy and was wondering this:

Being that great domain names are a hot item, is it possible that a search site, could snatch that name (after you've searched it)?

Anyway, it was an idea. Not sure of the validity.

*might be a way to make some money, but i'm sure some would be pissed if they found out there name was swiped!

I'm not sure that a search site could do this but for sure the company itself has all the data.

I run Product for Hosting at GoDaddy and I get this question a ton. Usually it is phrased, "I've heard GoDaddy watches what people search, then buys the domain, then when i come back a week later they try to sell it to me for a much higher price!" or something along those lines.

Even though I'm in Hosting and not the domains side of the house I do get this question a lot so I asked one of my developers run through the code with me to confirm that this isn't happening... and it isn't. :)

Lot's of shady things going on with Godaddy. However, most of it happens in the after markets and with hijacking of domains by changing nameservers that redirect to Godaddy. Just stay clear of them.

Uh huh. Sure, we believe you. Why would you lie? Why would you even know the truth, also?

You get the question a lot because it happens a lot. Obviously GoDaddy isn't going to admit what they do, but I've read of numerous cases where GoDaddy steals hot domain names. They've stolen two from me. While you're lying about that, why don't you tell some more lies, like about "domain tasting", lol ask your fictional "programmer" what that is. I talked to my programmer and he says your programmer is lying.

They sometimes stole domain names which are about to expire. So, you can't renew it after passing dead line because they stole it before you renew it.
I'm talking from the experience which happened to one of our customer.

    Be aware.

GoDaddy are domain thieves. I stopped using them after the second time they stole a domain name
idea. Also had plenty of friends experience this.

If you believe this, here's a suggestion: create a file where you keep track of domains and try them when you are in the spending mood. So you don't have your ideas floating about.

One time, I thought I was dreaming.... I found an awesome brandable domain name (one word domain), perfect for my coming project. I hesitated a moment.... then wanted to buy, but whoops. Already registered. And, who would've thought... it's now a premium domain for 2,5k$, registered by godaddy 1 minute after I searched it the first time.

I hate godaddy. Seriously. I wanted to punch the screen at that moment.

Yep, and I stop using them from sometimes ago. If you search for domains from their website and the engine considered the domain as "premium" then when you make decision to register the domain you will find it's already registered. That's not a rumour, it's a fact.

I think this JUST happened to me. Tried to register a decent domain and was unavailable after a search. Found this in a WHOIS lookup:

    http://prntscr.com/5ldz8i

While a regular private registrations looks different and has billing info, contact info, abuse info etc.

So, am I being paranoid too?
