I have finally decided, after a few years hiatus to actually get started with a blog and keep it going for as long as possible. I have dabbled in other areas for a long time but never fully got into blogging. I had a sister who recently sold a website she barely worked on for 25k and used it for a part of a downpayment on a house. She was in a niche she was passionate about and from what I gathered people say to start somewhere you are passionate about and have knowledge in and enjoy. I am not a very good writer but I can go on and on about some topics without skipping a beat.

The problem I am having a hard time getting started with is the fact that the niches I am most passionate about are considered extremely competitive and I don'ts see how I can succeed in them so feel rather stuck. I want to go for something low competition but the niches I have always been interested in is gaming or tech-related. I am assuming If I get started in any of these niches the competition would be pretty fierce and I wouldn't have much chance succeeding in them so feel I am at sorta a roadblock.

I have a budget set aside and plenty of time on my hands but don't want to waist a whole year and realize my niche was impossible to get any traction in. So the main thing I wanted to ask was anyone with experience think I will be able to actually make it in a tech niche or should I possibly try and find something less competitive and less passionate about?

Thanks.

Once money start rolling in, at some point you will hire writers to scale it to next level wheather it's your hobby or not. So what's the point of sticking with your hobbies. The point is crystal clear don't touch ymyl niche. You can play with your luck even if it is competitive but not ymyl.

Gaming and Tech are pretty good niches to get into as there is always newer stuff to talk about (which is pretty good) and there's always a bunch of products you can push for sales...

Select the niche in which you have more interest, this will work. It's about how you post creative and informative content to attract user interest. Gaming and tech are good niches, you could give it a try, as your passionate about it.

Figure out a profitable niche and break it down to its sub-niches then choose your winning sub-niche which had a need.

For instance health is a big niche and very competitive, you can only target a few minority of people like people who suffer from acne, they are desperate and need an immediate solutions, I'd you send them an offer they buy it.

Follow a minority of people who are desperate. Who have a problem and need a solution. People need traffic. Leads, conversions and customers.

How about serving these people. They will fall in love with you, just send them what they need

How are you thinking of monetizing the tech / gaming niche site?

This is true for the majority of people. Unless your hobby and interests are really niche there's going to be plenty of competition there already.

Maybe if you drill down far into you might get lucky enough to find a sub-niche with low competition but the likelihood is you either have to deal with competition or work outside of your main passions.

My most profitable markets bore the hell out of me but my passion is in building a profitable business from it.

Tech/Gaming are huge monsters and you are correct it will be an uphill battle for you to begin with however can't you pick a sub-niche in tech?

work on sub-niches so that you can increase your changes of getting to your destination.

You can find hundreds of sub-niches easily in tech/gaming.

Don't get bothered by the big guys in these niches and say to yourself, I can't beat them.

Start small and start racing in a smaller track and win!

Yes. I totally agree with your start small and always make sure you make some improvements.

You could always niche down.

Instead of gaming ... focus on a very niche game.

If that is still too competitive, focus on a very specific aspect of that game.

I'm not into gaming, but let's say you choose Need For Speed.

if that's too popular then you'd focus on something very niche about Need for Speed like how to win multi player races or how to get away from cops... or how to win points quickly.

And you can become known as the expert in that very specific and niche area.

Great suggestions everyone. I’m gonna start digging and try and find some sub niches and go from there.

Pretty much every niche known to mankind is going to get competitive at some point. I would say that you should simply pick the one that you are most passionate about and get writing. If your perspective and voice can touch people, you will stand out sooner or later. The worst thing that you could possibly do would be to pick a niche just because it seems easy. Nothing is easy when you churn and burn.

All niches are competitive now, but in the scheme of things, it isn't hard to quickly become a top 3 website in that niche, if you know what you are doing, have a decent plan, and promotion of your site vigorously.

No matter how competitive the niche is, you can always steal some traffic.
Start writing and keep writing while keeping an eye on GSC.

Generally, you do rank for few KW which you can own with some more efforts.

If you consider above as a waste of time, I guess few members suggested to buy a new site.

If you enjoy it then do it of course, it will bring you pleasure and money if you will do it well. so the main reason to start a blog in this area is skills and desire, so do not hesitate)));)
