Well not really dead but yahoo have just announced that they will be removing their backlink checker in a month or less!

    That means:
-none of your tools what uses it will be working since there isn't any other source then yahoo to check backlinks!
-You won't be able to find new keywords what you can rank for, since you won't be able to see competition for them.
-Won't be able to reverse engineer and get high quality backlinks.
-Won't be able to spy on your competitors.

When this will happen at least for me it will kill for me EVERYTHING and for almost all of the experienced guys here as well. $hit sucks!

Interesting, but that just means there will be a market for a link checking site.

    Interested to see the source

Even if this news is true, Its not for All SEO Industry. Its for Newbies who jumped onto SEO recently. There are always better and smarter way to check backlinks, find competition for keywords as well as spy on our Competitors. FYI, Yahoo is not the only backlink checker in WWW

However it you would be able to access normal yahoo site-explorer from MSN Webmaster after the process of Yahoo! and Microsoft Search Alliance gets completed.

It seems they are just shutting down their API but not the the actual tool.

The tools which are using the Yahoo Siteexploer for extracting backlinks will be dead as the API they are using will not be available. With normal view of Yahoo Siteexplorer, You won't be able to check all the backlinks of your competitors if they are above the 1000.

However there are some great tools which are not using ONLY yahoo siteexplorer's API to extract the backlinks.

Basically this means the tool's location gets changed, but the tool remains ?

Damn OP almost got me for a second. Nice joke. :D

You dont need that pathetic tool to find backlinks. 99% of the time is wrong anyway so who cares. There are other tools that dont rely on Yahoos tools that will find all your back links. I cant stand their tool anyway. Its so inaccurate that if you based your site baclinks upon it you would be extremely pissed off.

HINT: Scapebox to name just one.

I have my own tool, which is based on yahoo, but not on API. So, this should not affect it.

Quite a lot of you mention other tools for backlinks checking, which are not based on yahoo. Could you share with us which ones you are talking about?

I don't see what the big deal is. I only use the YSE for reference. There are other backlink reference tools out there.
