I remember a few months ago before penguin and even before panda how much of the chatter was about software here. And which tool was better than X, Y, or Z's tool. Looks like a LOT of people who were cranking out the junk too fast must have got burned. That, and I think a lot of the tools simply stopped being effective. But I would guess that there HAS TO be people still releasing new stuff... it probably just hasn't been talked about here.

There have been a few tools on here recently but not a whole lot. It seems almost every backlinking category already has tools for it so that's probably part of it. And Penguin too of course.

I'm guessing it's becoming more difficult to build good tier 1 links with tools now adays, and their primary uses have fallen to just blasting tier 2/3+.

link building is becoming ineffective. I've noticed in the last 3 months, doesn't seem to rank at all. The only thing that ranks well is onpage seo w/ quality content.

Blog networks seem to have disappeared a lot too recently.

Yeah, and Facebook is going to allow us all to use up to 10 fake accounts per person just for marketing purposes. Ha. Onpage Seo(do not over optimize), unique content for sure, no spun content on your website, a blog page for casual updates, steady diverse link building and you should be good. Tweak it a bit between link velocity and you're good to go.

Tools still work you just need to use them a little differently now.

Blog networks and homepage link networks fucking kill it.... but as others have mentioned they have gone underground and for good reasons as well.

the thing is the old ones that used to advertise to death and/or had everyone publicly talking about them were in the crosshairs of the big G. Add in some of the greedy/dumb networks that would give example websites out to anyone and you have a recipe for disaster for some of hte networks.

truth is i've been in a network for over a year that i use exclusively with all of my clients and they've had insane results but theres no way that i'd post the url here just like im sure they wouldn't want their service posted here.

if you search hard enough you can find good tools and services, the thing is they've gone underground again.

I built my own private blog network that I use to to link my sites into. It's pretty easy to buy PR1-3 expired domains all day long, and then just build blogs on them. You can also buy them cheaply on any domain forum if you look hard enough. Make the blogs news clearinghouse type blogs where you have tech news, entertainment news, sports news, etc in your categories, and find a cheap writer to populate each section. Then when you have for instance a new sports blog you want to rank you have a sports category on each of your private blogs so you can link it in with a relevant backlink. It takes some work initially, but once you get it set up the benefits are pretty amazing.
