Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba is challenging Amazon by promising fast deliveries from China to anywhere in the world.

WSJ visits Alibaba’s largest automated warehouse to see how robots and a vast logistics network are helping it expand globally

It's not easy to beat a giant like Amazon, especially with their sellers and brands...

but, again,

most shit is made in china

China doesn't play fair, imagine if they shut out all exports except through Alibaba group xD. That would certainly be a way to cripple amazon.

On that topic, i wonder if things will still remain cheap vs the prices on amazon

they'd get sacked for it... amazon is u.s, so, it's a never-ending loop.

I'd say stuff would improve for alibaba if they're going down that road; we'll see more ordinary people ordering from them. But I don't think it would even come near Amazon as far as their reach is concerned

About half of the sellers in Amazon are from China

If Alibaba provides fast shipping globally I'm sure all the sellers will switch back, especially if Alibaba provides less fee than Amazon doing with FBA.

the Alibaba group is expanding in countries like Russia, Spain, France, and some 3rd countries, which is out of reach for Amazon at the moment
the only problem is the low-cost strategy their sellers follow, which lead to counterfeits, and low-quality products

China was built on patent infringement :P. Tbh it's nice to have some of these Chinese knockoffs, they aren't always bad. In fact, I've had Chinese products with more sturdy construction than the originals that seem to be built to fall apart. But at the same time i've had chinese crap that broke after 3 seconds so you win some you lose some :P

if some of those Chinese manufactures took their time and put good materials, brand the outside package with some good designs, they will make the double
I have a friend who ordered some 5 to 10 USD articles from Aliexpress, the listing on the website was good, but once he received them, he got mad...

As for the quality, it's always advisable to buy samples before you buy in bulk. Always remember... you get what you pay for. :P

Have ordered a couple of times over the years, their trade assurance definitely gives me peace of mind. 3% added to the total value though.

My only issue is the language barrier with the sellers.

Not only ecom but also cloud computing, alibabacloud is the direct competitor of amazon aws. Their prices are great and their equipments seems good too.

Amazon is full of Chinese sellers, and full of none Chinese sellers who buy from Chinese factories.

So you think shit is made in china so you buy from Amazon, sorry you are still buying Chinese products.:suspicious:

It doesn't matter whether it's the Chinese products or Chinese sellers marketing these goods, but Amazon has a very good reputation. Most people, particularly in USA, associate China with patent infringement and low-quality goods. China (or at least Alibaba) needs to build a reputation to attract foreign customers. I don't think Amazon will sit back being a spectator while Alibaba goes international. These corporate companies can do a lot of damage to their competitors without us ever knowing about it.

In my opinion, domination is definitely not impossible.

As mentioned earlier, Amazon is also quite dependent on Chinese. So it will be more about logistics / logistics centers around the world.

If Alibaba gets enough physical presence in biggest logistics standard locations, I see a potential Amazon destroyer here ;)
