Hey guys, just another quick alexa related question - this happened to me a few times with a few domains, I like to monitor our alexa ranks (although some people don't take alexa seriously on here) and I would see our rank go slowly improve, but then overnight it would drop millions of places literally overnight...I am just wondering does anybody know the cause of that? Like I said, it happened several times with variety of domains.

    Thank you

Hmm that is a new one, could be a new version of the google dance.
but dropping millions is really crazy, I would wait it out and see if it dances around
hopefully it will go back to normal. keep us posted I am interested in seeing what happens

Hardly heard anyone saying Alexa rank went down in millions. Looks like something is wrong with your techniques.

You said it happened to several domains, do they come back after sometime? or its just dead?

Yes they slowly improve, but it seems like it's from the new traffic not just because it bounces back because of some sort of glitch. I am sorry what could be wrong with me "techniques" when it's natural traffic? Lastly, I am not saying Alexa should be THE deciding factor when relating to SEO relations - but it should never be ignored.

alexa is shit and nothing helpful at all..

but to answer your question... alexa might be just recently fixed the faked traffic generated that can increase the website Alexa rank.

Alexa rank is not a thing... it only matters if you are in the business of flipping sites and even then it isn't a trustworthy measure.

I read an article somewhere that mentioned Alexa a few months ago. It said said something about the Alexa toolbar and sites suffering recent Alexa ranking drops, but I'm unsure about the veracity of that article.
