Hey,

Seems AI sites are getting hit hard by the latest Google Core Update:

"Google is taking aim at sites with heavy AI-content. There are countless reports of sites getting COMPLETELY de-indexed from search:

1. On March 5th, Google announced the March 2024 Core Update that talked about taking action against sites with "Scaled Content": https://lnkd.in/eRPbb9hx

2. The next day, Mark Williams-Cook was one of the first to cite a case study where an AI -site was getting completely removed: https://lnkd.in/eRKXkMkq

3. It appears that site owners are getting manual action-type penalties. In Search Console, they're getting "Pure Spam" notifications that inform them of the penalty against them (via Bill Hartzer): https://lnkd.in/eXifGvNA

4. Lily Ray tweeted an example of 10 sites that have been completely removed from search overnight: https://lnkd.in/eXhXa65J

5. Jacky Chou experienced all the sites tied to a Search Console account he managed get removed. Sites not in the account weren't impacted: https://lnkd.in/eSTgXsh7

6. Julian Goldie has a YouTube channel where he frequently talks about AI SEO content strategies. He reported that many of the sites he manages were impacted: https://lnkd.in/e6b3xsrfI'm currently doing some additional analysis on these types of sites but they appear to be sites that had aggressive content production, utilized AI-content and gained a lot of new pages and organic traffic quickly."

Has anyone experienced this? What are your thoughts on keep using AI for content?

This is very expected.

The target is not AI per say, rather mass production of content which AI is used for.

I doubt any algorithm could tell apart GTP-4 article with human input from human only piece.

What they can tell apart easily is when site goes from 0 articles to 1000+ in a month.

Speaking about G core update:
https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2024/03/core-update-spam-policies
- ExpDoms: New site not in the same niche => BAM. At least this is what they declared and want and can achieve. I am very surprised reading that now, so late, after decades. Has this never been declared previously? Technically the unrelatedness seems to be easily detectable.
- Scaled Content: They admit again that they cannot ("we do not") distinguish between AI-content and human content. Moreover, it makes sense, right? New domain, many content in short time => BAM. No way other than using secondary signs, like this mentioned content building velocity. Looks similar to using backlinks building velocity as a pattern to identify BH.

Back to your question: I strongly assume AI content for itself is not harmful. Bad (AI) content will not allow you to rank high, though. And using scaled content might be prohibitive now.

It's definitely a wake-up call for anyone heavily reliant on AI-generated content. Google's latest Core Update is a game-changer, especially for sites leveraging AI-generated content. The crackdown on "Scaled Content" underscores the importance of quality over quantity. With numerous reports of sites getting de-indexed or hit with "Pure Spam" penalties, it's clear that Google is targeting content that lacks originality and value.

For those of us utilizing AI for content creation, this serves as a call to reassess our approach. AI can still play a role, but it should support, not replace, human creativity. The focus must shift towards using AI to aid in research, idea generation, and drafting, with a human touch ensuring the content's quality and relevance.

Adapting to these changes is crucial. Balancing AI assistance with human oversight might be the new norm, ensuring our content remains valuable and engaging to readers while complying with Google's guidelines.

Has anyone felt the impact of this update, and how are you planning to adjust your content strategy?

Google's cracking down on what they call "Scaled Content". I've seen mixed results with AI content.

I have a website with about 80 posts published in about 2 months. The content is GPT4 but it wasn't spammy at all, probably better than 95% of writers. Everything is structured nicely, with good outlines. It is gone too. So, they definitely targeted AI heavily and not only these spammy websites with 1000s of posts.

My all AI Niche sites are still up, even some of them are getting spike in traffic surprisingly. when utilizing AI for content creation Taking an aggressive approach is risky.

My advice is to focus on quality over quantity. Rather than flooding your site with content, prioritize publishing fewer pieces that incorporate a human touch and offer substantial value.

The website deindexed?

The website deindexed?
At the moment, no. But today is the first day that I noticed the rankings took a huge hit. The keywords from TOP10 are completely gone.

It is not about AI content as per my research. Google says "Our focus on the quality of content, rather than how content is produced, is a useful guide that has helped us deliver reliable, high-quality results to users for years." Kindly correct me if I am wrong.
