I'm getting back into SEO... It's been around 4-5 years since I've ranked a website.

I want to do things 100% manually for my first site.

I'm wondering, how fast can I build links to a brand new domain?

The links I'll be building will be from DA 85-100 sites for the first month.. can I just go all out on those?

PS - I won't be doing anything spammy... but I want to rank ASAP so I'm hoping to push a large volume of links each day.

I think it's important to keep the velocity going so don't get crazy unless you can keep it going.

And just be careful with your anchor text and so on, otherwise it will cause problems.

Get a copy of Scrapebox, if you haven't already. It's definitely a bad ass tool. I also use Ahrefs a lot, Moz, and Majestic SEO for a number of backlinking and competitor research efforts. You wanna make sure you're blogging a lot too. Check out ArticleForge to speed up your blog writing efforts. You're still gonna have to do some editing, but it'll definitely cut back on the amount of time spent creating that content. Share it all on social media sites as well. Sign up for a ton of directories and put Scrapebox to use. There are dozens of ways Scrapebox will help. Also, there's a Blackhat World coupon that gets you like $40 off. I didn't know that when I bought it. :/

I agree with @davids355 about the velocity, the pattern of your linkbuilding is what makes it look natural, wether it's 5 links a day or 50 links a day. There is no set 'safe' number, use common sense of what would look non-suspicious and not spammy.

And also on a similar note, keep it inline with the other sites currently in top 10 - for example if those site only have couple of hundred links you might look suspicious if you start building thousands.

contextual links and 5-10 per week should be enough (ofc depending upon your niche). As david says above check backlinks of your competitors and build accordingly.

    Cool thanks guys!

The last thing I'm wondering about (just want to make sure it's somewhat 'white hat') and I'm not taking a risk by doing it.:

I plan on using https://ifttt.com/ to automate the syndication of content to multiple web properties (wordpress, blogger, weebly, delicious, facebook, twitter,g+ etc)

So any time I post a youtube video or create a new post on my website it will syndicate to 15+ properties with a link back to the source content.

Google is ok with syndication like that right?

shouldn't harm your site like spam links. I remember ping.fm or something used to offer same service. It used to help with serps on low competition keywords lol.
