After Penguin Invest in slapped site or Start Authority site?

Im kind of new to IM so to start I made some small test sites with the intention of growing them out over time. Well my progress has been slow so they havent been expanded yet. With the recent updates my sites have been slapped,it looks like all of them.

All the sites are thin affiliate sites and I really don't know if it is worth the time ,expense and effort to try and get them back up in the rankings. I only figured them to make 100$ a month anyway once they were expanded and ranking.

I bought a service to see what would happen, maybe the rankings will come back, I hadn't touched them in a few months either so that is probably part of what happened.

I was thinking for the same cost and effort I could start an authority site or 2.

What would you do?

You should create an authority site with 20-30 keywords and work on expanding that.

Sometimes, it is just better to drop the sites you made when you were starting out, and pursue something new with the knowledge you have accumulated.

I have been thinking that myself but its hard to throw away all the work and money I put into them. I mostly learned what not to do but the sites were right on the edge of doing what I planed for them to do but if I had to do it over again I would of never done it.

I pretty much had the money they could earn pretty close its seems but the money it would take to get there since I was outsourcing all the link building really ends up not being woth it in the end.

If I would of put the same money and effort into authority sites I would probably have 5 of them making much better money then those ever could of.

Well live and learn I guess.

I will give them 2 rounds of link building services and see if they come back. If they don't come back I will drop them I guess.

This is really difficult to say... Although I prefer authority sites, and neither of my sites in this plan has less than 100 unique articles, some of them were hit also... quite hard... So now imagine, that you invest a lot of your time, money, hopes and love to a big authority site, and it get hit

.

In my country, I have a friend who has local site, big authority, with more than 3000 pages of unique content. Few weeks ago, he was hit too.

So, probably, authority sites are the better option but first of all, authority site is not only about number of articles (and if it is, than the number is not 20-30 but at least 200-300) and on the top of that, you really need to be careful and do everything right to not be slapped anyway.

I have read here some people after changing backlink strategy they got their rankings back.Just search over the forum.

Noone knows the penguin factors yet or how to recover. A few people have claimed to have recovered but nothing concrete in my opinion and certainly nothing that can be applied to other sites that will definitely make them recover. I think if i was you i would keep those sites but not spend any more time on them and instead create new sites. In time, people will know how to recover if the sites having recovered by then, you can then fix these sites

Yeah, It is so hard to come up with a plan of attack, you always hear peoples ideas but they are so different right now I can't tell what game plan to follow.Its not a big deal because they were not making enough money for me to worry about yet. I guess letting them sit for a while can't hurt nothing. My Baclinks are so diverse I cant make any sense of what might be devalued or not.

No, Its worth to go with a new site, Its very difficult to rank the site dropped in penguin

New sites with EMD or an domains rank very easily,

Only of my site is at the position #1 and that is a EMD,

So I would suggest you to go with a new site
